There are plenty of people who bought gil that got caught up in this, don't be fooled. You're probably not reading in the right places, or between the right lines. Their general response turns out to be: "Meh, I had it coming".
We're hearing from the vocal minority of people who feel burnt, not the people who got rightfully suspended/equalised.
The only innocent parties appear to be people who've gone in early to dominate the crafting market. They probably do deserve a week free for their troubles. Having said that I'm not sure how people have the smarts to get in and dominate the market so early, and not realise (or claim ignorance) that the vast majority of the profit is going to come from RMT gil.
Maybe, but take a look over at the UI thread. Nearly everyone in that thread is sub 200k. I doubt anyone smart enough to make the kind of dough you're talking about would be dumb enough to not be saving some of that income, especially considering how perfectly acceptable non-buyable (so to speak, DL and whatnot) gear is.
I can of course not speak for anyone else but most I know have significantly more. There wasn't too much to do in 1.0 except grind the same dungeons over and over again and gather/craft.
Personally, I keep most of my funds on my retainers, and before it was clear that they were merely redenominating, I moved significant amounts of gil to alternative characters. I for one would be reluctant to post a screenshot with my full networth out of sheer paranoia. I don't trust SEs token solution enough to make myself a target.
So since SE targeted some crafting moguls who might have sold to gil buyers in the first wave of suspensions and gil purge. How paranoid should I be that this guy http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...acter/3949649/ bought the hq gryphonskin ring I had on the market board over the weekend.
I still don't understand why SE removed the gil, but didn't reimburse players with the base mat or something, since they've lost the gil and items they sold (they may have paid for the base mats etc).
Because they didn't actually do an investigation of what was bought and sold. Literally they used their blanket program to see who was connected to who (in terms of gilsellers/buyers), suspended us for a week, and used another blanket program to /100 our gil.
They can't give us our base matts back, otherwise they'd have to give us back 99% of everything we used, because they took 99% of what we had (gil wise).
They did and it was why I stockpiled materia and sellables instead of gil. I kinda got lucky with the bans as I hadn't started selling it yet (felt that T4 prices would go up rather than down and I had like 200 cracked materia). If I had, I would have been fucked unless legacy servers weren't included in the sweep.
S-E is deleting threads about this now in the official forums. Stay classy, most honorable Japanese company. We should be honored to give our gil back to save glorious Nippon.
I'd be gone if they destroyed my hard-earned work, especially after putting in such silly grinds like gathering. Capping the 40-50 in mining is just.... uuuuughhhhghhghghg....
DoL are still grindy as hell even with leves-a-plenty.
They're not broken like FATEs or crafting leves exp wise and they are sooooo fucking boring, even by MMO standards.
Fishing is fun and easy to level!
Too bad it makes no money :D
