super wat at the wow is harder cause we dont cheese kite shit attempt.
Wat at this too tho. I have straight tanked Kirin, Faust and Ulli easily. Non-zerg. Granted, it was when we were "over geared" for shit but KB is the one and only thing I can think of that I never straight tanked and that's mostly cause I rarely fought it.
I'm positive our group could push it to split before a second stack easily if we wanted.
Kiting Kirin was the only effective strategy used by NA players until about 2007 or 2008 when melee burning actually became plausible. Japanese players used to hold him still and just body toss tanks on my server until they watched NA's kite him and then they always did the same.
If you never saw Kirin kited then you probably didn't play until close to abyssea.
Chi Blast... Drgs and pld using opo and sleep pots for spirits... Man fuck those days.
It wasn't melee burning that made straight tanking Kirin possible, it was just being smart and having better than AF1 gear.
2 PLDs, a couple melee (preferably SAMs to SC) and a BLM pt and you could fight him just like any of the other sky gods. Stonega was perfectly livable as long as enough people were getting hit by it.
Back onto Twin subject: Is there something with the hillside near the battle entrance that fucks up Twister?
My static figured out their snake problem so we're hitting twisters reliably now, but both I and the other healer got hit with a twister on different occasions during our run from the snake transition to our healing spot, dying immediately after the cast bar ends even though neither of us stopped moving, or traced another's path.
Have had zero issues otherwise dodging them. Mostly just working out the kinks of dealing with dreads with our caster-heavy setup.
One of the healers in my group noted something similar with the hill during Twister phase. He basically ate it immediately when the cast bar ended so it's probably something funky with the geometry that messes with how Twister tracks the player. Aside from that quirk, we've dodged them all fine.
I sprint as soon as Aetheric goes off, wait for plummet, run straight across to the hill (left from the entrance, whatever direction that is) and just run a little circle near the left edge of the hill for twisters afterwards. Never had issues.
idk, our SCH and I sit on the hill and neither of us ever get hit by Twister.
edit: and Seravi, the sch, beats me to the post.
Kirin and Ullikumi were kited forever. Never saw faust kited, you always had somebody tank him at the teleporter while he was spam healed.
Chi blasts were only used if you don't have enough BLMs! >____> having cycling parties because the MNK boost parties were useless 80% of the time was interesting.
Also if you never saw a kite, you weren't low manning these mobs at 75 or over caps, essentially any kill with less than 6 people had to be kited at some point until 99 cap, at which point 5-6 people could blow kirin up in like 2 minutes, ignoring adds and all (we did WAR, SAM, SAM, THF, WHM, WHM most of the time at 99 cap), but yeah other than Kirin low man, 2008 and beyond, you would never have seen them kited.....
anyway, on the twisters phase, it's either a lag issue or the geometry was odd right there, Lag=trace slightly larger circles (MIGHT help) or just hope for a run with no lag, bad geometryL 1. I would put in a bug report about it 2. move you location a little bit.
I'm on the hill for twisters. I had issues when I just ran straight through. Now I do the prepatch spiral and never get hit. Maybe it's something about the geometry and how you go about avoiding them.
