Almost every skill has that issue. It's just most prominent on abilities like Hallowed Ground, Benediction, Spirits Within and Brutal Swing.

Is it by the design or is it just shitty coding that SE isn't going to fix right out of the gate, hoping people don't notice it too much? Because that's what happening, at least with Brutal Swing.
Who intentionally designs brutal swing to only proc at the end of a long wind-up, and then comes back in an interview and states that they want to adjust the ability?
Fucking SE does. What were they thinking the first time around?
I'm actually completely okay with that "problem" because it works both ways. I can't count the amount of times an enemy used an ability on me, the damage popped up as flyby text on my screen, and it was enough to kill me... but because it died before the animation finished I didn't die.
I don't know that I've ever seen that happen. And even so, it doesn't matter nearly as much, the boss/enemy/whatever died either way, so all the death costs is a couple of gil in gold repair. Having something like a benediction or hallowed ground come out after you die not only is a death mid-fight, but a huge cooldown completely wasted making it even harder to recover.
And speaking of calling things the wrong thing, some people I run BC with call Hallowed Ground "Pally bubble" which pisses me off to no end. I pray it's some holdover from another MMO they played, because if that's their own creation there is no salvation for them in this life or the next. They also call any linear aoe, like ADS Piercing Laser, "landslide", which is mildly irritating.
Bubble comes from WoW
They weren't even called bubbles in that game either. It's just slang for the shield effect which looked like a bubble. WoW's "bubbles" were actually called Power Word Shield, Power Word Barrier, and Divine Aegis. Bubble is just game slang for an absorption buff. I'd call Adloquium's absorption shield a bubble too but since nobody can "see" it, I don't bother because I doubt anyone but other scholars are aware of it.
Real talk, I had no idea what the hell a "pat" was supposed to be until someone spelled it out for me.
When I played WoW (as a paladin), "bubble" was specifically used for paladin's invincible move, which looked like a bubble.

Not saying you're wrong, just my perspective.
I saw someone shouting for "two HPS" earlier. considered suicide
How about HOTs (pronounced hots)? That one confused me and is used by a lot of people in my FC. It's for regen, obviously. Heals over time.
"Don't run in, you've got HOT on."
Hots I'd guess pretty fast, but I have no idea what HPS is supposed to be? X.x
Healing per second? Playing with people using other MMO terminology is easily the worst part of FFXIV's social structure. Even worse than current lack of right-click blacklist.
I raided as a discipline priest, so I am pretty familiar with the bubbles. Paladin did have 2 bubbles (a cheap one, and an emergency one), but the discipline priest was the king of bubbles.

bubbles within bubbles in this shot from the ulduar legendary. Bubbles in WoW were very powerful because they acted independently of each other and some of them could stack, so you could toss Bubble #1 and then spam stackable Bubble#2 on the tank. Bubble #2 was basically adloquium in this game, if adloquium's buff could stack. (In WoW you could spec so all critical heals gave an Adloqium buff, so if you spammed big heals with high crit, you'd stack large bubbles that would absorb damage.)
At least from my experience, bubble was usually reserved for pally (I.e. good olé bubble-hearth), which in this case extends to Hallowed Ground since it's a short term invulnerability. Most damage absorption effects were usually just called shield, since for alot of MMO players their first experience with it was PW: S.
yup, bubble usually refer to pally's.
now go back on topic, lol.
The most notable one that happened recently was mistral shriek from the sisters on Garuda. It's not as menial a thing as you're making it out to be.I don't know that I've ever seen that happen. And even so, it doesn't matter nearly as much, the boss/enemy/whatever died either way, so all the death costs is a couple of gil in gold repair. Obligatory "why the fuck were the sisters alive to shriek"
