7 Hour lay over in Charles De Gaulle: Paris. Amazing race or Amazingly bored?

As per title, I have a 7 hour layover in Charles De Gaulle on my trip from Dublin -> NYC.

Haven't been to Paris since I was very young and would love to jump into the city to either see the Eiffel Tower briefly or to 'reconnect' with a french model chick I used to hook up with.

Google maps tells me its an hour each way... which seems to me to be eough time. But it would be great to hear someone who has been through the airport recently enough.

(I'd message her but a) her english is dire and b) if it isnt enough time I'd rather her not know that I'll be there!)

Reminds me of my 8 hour layover in Finland going to London. If I wasn't so disoriented (was my first flight to anywhere) I would've hit the town up.

Afraid I can't comment much about the airport as the only way I've arrived is by train at the Gare d'Nord. You could rent a bike there for a few Euro (like 10-20? I can't remember but it was damn cheap) and you can get anywhere. You could also grab a daily Metro pass for about 20 Euro as well and the Metro spiders all over Paris but might take you some time figuring out the stops and transfers.

Seeing as it must be really late I don't know how much you'll see considering the Metro does stop running its services for most lines around 2-3am. The Eiffel is really great at Midnight but I think you might have missed it? I hate Daylight time.

    Have fun!(?)

Well, it's like 22 miles from CDG to the Eiffel Tower, so you may want to take a cab or something, but shit a 7 hour layover is long enough to at least meet your frenchie friend for coffee and a quickie or something.

Brief update on this with some information if anyone else finds them self in the same boat :

It is indeed possible to go from Charles De Gaulle into the city on anything over a 5 hr lay over.

My experience: The plane finding its gate takes awhile (20min). Then there was a bus transfer to the terminal (10min). Going through passport control (5min, although obviously random and I'm european).

Then find the signs for the trains-> Look for the RER B (blue line). -> Get a ticket at one of those machines (Exact change needed if you use English menu...if you use french you can use your credit card (French elitists!) 9.50Euro to go to Paris.-> Hop on train and hope you get the express one.

Trip takes about 40-50min to get to Saint Michel/Notre Dame which is in Zone 1 (France's metro is similar to London's zoning system if you have any experience there).

From Saint Michel/ Notre Dame you can : get out there and see Notre Dame, the Lourve and probably tons of other stuff.

If you want to go to the Eiffel tour its about a 45 minute walk (in the right direction. I was too stubborn to ask anyone but thankfully I was right). Or alternatively you can go back downstairs into the metro and take the Yellow line (or the C line, I cant remember).

All in all worth it. Would have been nice to meet up with that old flame but she apparently couldnt get out of class.

Nice - glad you could get out and into the heart of the city!
