How does SE even go about fixing this? It's how the game has been designed, is there some way for them to change it w/o redoing the server structure? I know nothing about programing so excuse me if its a stupid question

This is not hard to fix, it's actually going to be a (relatively) small change to both the server and the client code at the send/receive layers.
Detecting its use would also be easy going forward, but if they are not logging transmissions between the clients and servers (which is quite a bit of logging, may or may not have chosen to, plus it's more lag), then finding usage of this in the past is essentially impossible. Everyone would have gotten away with it.
Followed that link. My brain hurts now.

Legendaries.
Man alive, this kind of preening is painful to behold.
Yeah but SE should also know roughly what a realistic number of gold pieces to have obtained is. I mean not many quests give them, you'll get maybe a dozen or less doing all the quests. So if some guy has suddenly obtained and sold hundreds of them that's a flag. Surely they keep logs of every item you sell to an NPC too.
You could also turn them all into Coke and sell them in Rev. Toll, Pretty sure SE's official stance on that scenario would be a scorched-earth banning.
Also, say you requested gil in small amounts - was it a FATE? Did you sell anything? Complete a quest? Exploit the server?
There's also trillions of these
I guess its time I say something about this, since my friends and I were trying to keep it under wraps since Beta Phase 4. During phase 4 and early access a small group of players discovered this exploit and gave themselves a few billion gil. They used this gil to resell to RMT to the tune of $50 a mil. They also sold to private players for $5.5 a mil, hugely undercutting the RMT Business. During day 1 of early access, they already had multiple characters on new servers(non legacy) with over 3 Bil. SE quickly banned our characters but the damage was already done, billions of gil was already introduced into the market. This is where they confiscated the 300 billion. It was too late for them, they couldn't afford to do a complete roll back on launch week. Can you imagine the negative press? The gil "duping" has since stopped as SE has been banning the accounts within minutes but now they are focusing on selling allagan and Af2 armor. You can do a google search but the prices are $1500 for a whole set.
With common sense, it would be easy to track if the information was available.
A person had to have ran a certain amount of duties, been in those duties for a certain amount of time, etc.
Money is never created in a vacuum, so making reports that validate actions in game vs gil acquired(a balance sheet) would only be a weekend exercise for a DBA. But fuck common sense, it seems they don't track things like they did in 11 and I am not going to make myself look like a moron again for assuming common sense is in play anymore.
C'mon guys, it's clear SE has fucked up hard here but does anyone seriously question whether they're working towards a fix? After seeing the threads on the subject get nuked almost instantly? lol.
The account security issue makes me think its the same people (person) behind both lol. Amazing.
I already quit just because I found the game shallow and boring but this is good stuff.. more interesting than the game itself!
So yeah, those who were crying about the Eanae thread not being good enough drama, I hope you're gorging yourself silly on this delicious pre-P4 drama. Is this good enough for you? Have you finally found a more tasty treat than Salvage Bans? This is better than fishbotting. This is better than JP Craftbotting. This is far more destructive than any XI exploit, and this was known and happening prior to launch.
Got enough drama now? The entire game could have technically been ruined pre-launch. You can't GET more "drama" than that.
For that much money, I can't even fucking blame you. I mean, it's basically destroyed the game, but that's an obscene amount of money for the amount of "work". (I'm sure you guys did actually a lot of digging to figure this shit out, but you know what I mean).
That being said, this game is fucked. I really hope they don't do a rollback, the last thing I want to do is grind more shitty AK runs because SE is too retarded to make a game that isn't broken.
Seriously disliking you right about now.
I don't think I'll ever understand why people do shit like this lol. I mean yes, I'm a hypocrite cause I fish-botted in FF11. But that was miniscule compared to this. And I didn't even profit from fishbotting. Found it boring as fuck constantly restocking lures.
But ya. Back to disliking you.
