I actually wanted to try something extremely silly like SMN SMN SCH SCH (if 3 SCH was indeed too much healing), but I guess it's a little flawed since fairy won't heal pets will she?

Though fuck I had a PLD 90k once during last boss and I probably could have facetanked on SCH if I pre-healed. Breath is also physical so Ruin2 blind could be saved for that ala Mountain Buster Flash.

Will fairy heal other pets? If so, SMN BRD SCH SCH should be pretty fast. (Even if fairy won't auto-heal other pets, you could focus target the pet and manually spam Embrace during GCD, but that micro is a little too crazy for me.)

I am beginning to think that the lack of macroable pet commands is a conscious balance choice.

Now that I think back on it, yeah pets don't heal other pets. I've had SMNs whose Garuda ate a tail swipe on AK lastboss and fairy wouldn't lift a finger over it. So a Titan main tank would need occasional Adlo focus target love as well as master's Sustain. Though really in a SCH and SMN mix, Eos could supertank a few pulls as well and like I said, SCH can probably tank last boss if Titan can't hold hate.

If they made Eos' Obey not use Whispering Dawn, I wouldn't care about lack of pet macros and I'd 100% adjust to manual Embrace.

Does requiem actually effect SCH damage? Because based on the description it shouldn't.

If it does SE probably just bugged it so that it effects all spells and no WSs (would explain why windbite/flaming arrow aren't effected).

I'm not sure if "unaspected" means the same thing as "non-elemental."

I'll have to test it to be sure.

edit: Requiem definitely affects Ruin II and Miasma II, so it looks like it should work fine for SCH.

Even if they don't, I wouldn't think that means that they can't.

If you're casting Adlo then it kind of defeats the point. Ideally you would want to spam Embrace between Ruin GCD.

So I did run a little test and Foe Requiem is helping out "unaspected damage". So consider it just +spells rather than +elementals like it says.

What's a good food for scholar? I was thinking either Pastry Fish, Mulled Tea, or Buttons in a Blanket; but I don't play sch so I'm not really sure which to make for the sch in my coil group. He's not too sure either.

I go for Buttons since it still has a little crit on it, but I carry both anyways. Not too crazy about Mulled Tea, and Pastry Fish is basically Tea-1.

I prefer Buttons in a Blanket as the Accuracy on Deviled Eggs does nothing for me as it doesn't bring me to the cap so the extra determination is better.

Buttons in a blanket, but the difference is inconsequential. The VIT is the most important aspect.

Edit: The difference between buttons and the eggs. Fuckin' two posters prior need to refresh page less.

HQ buttons will heal for like 3 more HP

Prefer the +9 critical but both are good

Does anyone have a guide on which materia to meld to the Astral items for SMN? I don't want to use a high tier when it caps at a lower tier materia.

I've seen two Scholars that I thought were otherwise of sound mind buy Argute Gown before Relic +1. This is definitely insane, right? Wouldn't have given it a second thought had I not seen it on two skilled players.

It's definitely not a bad buy, but before Relic+1 is dumb/misinformed. The choice can be a bit blurred because of the crit on the body, but +3 Magic Damage on Relic+1 is too good.

Edit: If you ask, the best "bad" reason you could get is "I'm holding out for Allagan Book from turn 5"

I witnessed a debate on that matter elsewhere, and the few links found through google combined with some basic maths based on understanding of weapon damage (1 WD is roughly equal to 6 mind or so) indicate that yes, you really should be upgrading the book first.
