You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

You people are smart. WAT DO? (IP router to Tata Communications) FFXIV-related kinda

So, for those who ever have touched the ffxiv random complaint thread, you would have probably seen me bitch about the latency issues I've been having.

They are pretty extreme, I can do a titan and have the rubberband effect happen every 10 or so seconds.

Anyway, someone posted on the official forums this:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...rrounding-area

We live in LA and have TWC.

First off, I don't know how to get the server ip to do the tracert to see if it's the same issue. Or how would I know if this is really what is the issue?

Secondly, if this is true, anyone know of a way to have your ip route somewhere else (behind 9000 proxies)? Hubby thinks he remembers there was some site that would completely reroute your ip for like $3 a month, but not sure if that's true, and I figure it might not be too hard to do it yourself anyways.

Or as an aside, I asked in the thread if switching to AT&T would work (we don't have fios in our building), sounds like probably not as they may also use Tata. If I called their customer service and ask would they give an honest answer, do you think? Or would they just be like "NO OUR INTERNET IS GREAT" to try to get a sale?

as I recall someone figured out what address to do a tracert to and that will determine if you have a block on the address, meaning its purposely being throttled, you can take it to TWC but they will of course deny it, I know the alternatives are a forwarded IP like you said but it costs money

Is it going to be the same that is posted in the thread? We tried that one for shits and ya that same bump in latency happened as in the thread.

Try a tracert 199.91.189.25 to see where the lag might come from. This is one of SE's server in Ormuco's datacenters.

And if you get under 10ms it means you live near Ragnstown.

    1) open task manager
    2) performance tab
    3) resource monitor button
    4 log into ffxiv
    5) network tab
6 look at the tcp connections
    7 look for ffxiv.exe
Look at the remote adress column
    8) open command prompt
    9) do. Ping x.x.x.x - t. ( x.x.x.x 8/ the adress found in 7.5). And let it run for 5min while playing
    10) for each lines look at the number with the ms letters

    100 and under = AWSOME
    100-200 is ok
    200+ start to worry
    300+ pass to plan b

Plan b. download VPN gate and connect to a Canadian VPN. Then retry number 9

If pings are much lower then enjoy the game

Ping x.x.x.x - t for 5 min while playing xiv

X.x.x.x is the ip you found
