So basically Beseiged again. Never understood why my PS2 (using a dial-up connection) ran that so much better than a computer.

I've seen quite a few new players, or people that played 10 years ago and quit then (several people have said they left before ToAU came out) and decided to take a look again. The Reddit shell seems to get both transfers and new people, my shell doesn't really get transfers and I'm not actively pushing people to transfer. I've considered transferring, but I've got a leadership position of a sort and seem to be keeping some of the techy side of things going that people appreciate. I just don't line up well to do more than an event a week and fly by the seat of my pants for doing things in game, since I mainly get one block of consecutive playtime a weekend, and just enough time to get my login points every weekday. I am struggling a bit to get the Xbox users to check a forum/calendar for events we want to do rather than replacing the lsmes every day.
Less OS/application layers for the packet handling to traverse. PS2 basically had no background OS guarding access to the hardware, while Windows abstracts everything and has lots of system security measures in place, and more things drawing on the hard drive (AV software scanning every file on access, which makes DATs take longer to load, and OS firewall interpreting traffic, and the 40+ OS processes running just by having the system logged in).
No wonder playing on my PS2 was less laggy than any computer I've ever played FFXI on
It's more an issue of bad coding/conversion than a platform one.
It's not the fault of the PC as a platform, rather of SE who did a really bad work in converting the code.
Other MMO games are very smooth and they run on PC.
1)Unless you triobox/can line endless 8-12m buyer there are better gil event in game atm.
2)I'll glady admit delve II was good difficulty on release but the fact that it used old plasm/airlixir is a bad decision for me but I guess it paid for my koga in less than a week so meh
After much thinking, I think you guys are right and considering mythic dps could be a bad idea in current game paradigm so I"ll hope skirmish wpn come 1%/even to relic dd so I'll can expect hard content!
Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 2 new and 6 returning players(some not having played in 6+ years) that have joined my shell in last month or so. I know that's just anecdotal but that just didn't happen last year.
I was the only one left in my shell for 3/4 of 2013, after the REM fiasco. Now? Not so much.
When you sit on 400m+ you kinda find it hard to want to go and farm more when you already have nothing to spend it on. At least that is how I've been viewing delve after getting what I need at R15 and everyone else being in more or less the same boat. I doubt we'll see a 'delve the 3rd' just for the 7th naakual, and I wouldn't be too shocked it the whole delve system gets a copy pasta "RANDOM DUNGEON EXTRAVAGANZA." update like they're doing with skirmish and have it end up slapping the 7th naakual in it that only appears when you get the delve message. It would give no KI and only a chance at loot so people have something to actually chase, while every other item gets a +1 equivalent and a small boostie in their ilvl if they're not already 119.
Do you really believe the majority of the player base even has 30m to spend on things, let alone 400m+?
If all you do is spam delve, you'll make that in under a week with splits. Gil isn't hard to make especially in mass quantities if you actually grind.
Edit: The 30m that is.
Well yes, we're talking about how Delve is a good moneymaker for those that can spam it. I'd say most people don't have an actual static or semi-static they go with though, so they can only go a few times a week from shouts or the like.
Yeah there is so much to do it almost feels like a waste to far gil especially if you don't have much play time or a static or are in the middle of other long term goals like mythics or ergons
Would be funny if FFXI went F2P and opened a P2W eshop. ;3 (I actually wouldn't be against this. Hate subscription fees)
I'd pretty much be okay with XIV paying for XI after how many years it was the other way around.
this ^
What are you guys referencing with the besieged talk?
never gonna happen :/. i would love to see a total FFXI revamp, keep all the content, modernize the settings UI/game interface/features like duty finder/graphics etc., modernize most of the older content up to abyssea, do some tweeks and then release it, do tweeks to the battle system, involving some movements/evading stuff via repositioning. it would be a remake of the game newly launched including all expansions, but that would never happen. the amount of content FFXI would offer if you condense the lvl/stats of the gear close together would be insane. but this would only be interesting if you would want to re-release the game for a new audience.
Damn son, dream big or don't dream at all. Lol that's dreaming for pretty much a whole new mmo but retaining an old games image.
Dying before the mob even loads on screen in the new skirmish is what the besieged reference was. I don't think it's going to be that way though since there won't be 700 people in the zone + npcs + 200 mobs. If there's congestion it will just prevent you from entering at all.
I won't care for a free to play set up either. Not because I love paying subscription fees but because it would just end up being pay to win and people would pay more money for less content.
