I guess it's not, but it depends on your definition of "hard".
For Salvo 2 you need some basic gear, for Fishing you need nothing other than fishing stuff.
Salvo2 you can do once a day, Fishing you can do all day long.
Salvo2 you kinda need to be there and play, Fishing you can bot while you're sleeping or at work etc.

    Different pros, different cons.
Fishing was really good as something to do in your off time (i.e. when you're not in front of the PC).

Getting ebisu even botting all the way to 100 is harder than having gear good enough to farm salavge -.-

Don't ask me, I don't have an Ebisu Rod, and didn't get the one on my mule (the one I used to have back in the days)
I assume yeah, it's not easy.

Unless you have like 4 accounts fishing stuff all day long for 1 Ebisu lololol (I actually know people who got it that way, not even joking...)

This is pretty neat on SE's part. They could have made it where you can summon them both, and if the Young version dies first, then the adult one dies soon after. They could have added some specific boost to them being summoned both but had Young weaker (-hp) or something. IDK.

(To actually contribute to the discussion though- most people I knew on Asura ended up doing both Salvage II and fishing overnight as, lets face it, both are super easy gil fountains.)

Sure you could fish when you aren't in front of your pc... but it was rather risky if you weren't in earshot since on rare occasions they did sweeps of beau... or some asshole could just report you for fun.

As far as not actually being in front that's true but there was time gathering/making bait and walking depending on how good your bots were you'd still have to come back to change what you were doing... which in the end the gil per hour actually spent on the comp was still almost as good doing salvage if you weren't able to automate the whole thing... and if you had a bot that was good enough to run around to different zones buy/make bait then warp to other zones run around fish and then warp out and sell etc you probably had access to bots that could just farm random npcables/sellables or now sparks

And yeah your first ebisu takes awhile unless you got a buyer and cashflow. After that it's pretty easy. With an ebisu rod you can catch ebisu fish about as fast as Hak so even with horrible luck you will have your items while waiting on guild points

And as far as the only 1 salvage a day... sure that's true but on the other hand most people have at least 1 extra character on their account. And doing coalition assignments for balyd is not bad gil wise once you rank up and the process lets you to level and merit characters and even get some good enough for salvage gear in the process so would be easy to turn those into salvage farmers. Heck I just started a few weeks ago and got all my bonaza mules up to 70 now and max couriers rank and like 800k baldy lol

I had something that worked kinda like ISBoxer when I used to run 5 salvages a day, but it was actually just 1.

All commands sent to one box would emulate onto the other 4 with some minor delay 5-10ms or so give or take between commands, made running multiple salvages a day a fucking breeze provided that all the characters you would go in would be the same job, for myself I just ran as red mage made it much simpler and nearly impossible to die. I farmed a fuck load of alex in a short amount of time doing that, pay off was huge and it only took about 35min - an hr depending on how lazy I felt.

Uhm... I stopped fishing before SoA launch, so no, I couldn't do those things back then ^^'

And a second salvo run wasn't an option either because: 1) it was hard to solo Salvo back then, if I had to do salvo I usually was dualboxing, 2) mule didn't have jobs good enough to attempt solo even if I wanted, 3) I barely had time to do ONE run, and as a matter of fact I was only doing a couple each week max, I wouldn't have wasted time for a second lol, that would have killed me
Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I have little patience. Doing a long time event (yes, 1+ hrs is "long" for me) multiple times a day every day would kill my will to play the game in a couple of weeks lol

    Edit:
Talking mostly about solo stuff. I find I can stand group things somehow better than solo things, no clue why. Maybe I find them less "repetitive"? Less boring? No clue.

That's why I said now sparks lol. There was still mobs you could farm that were probably more lucrative. Regardless there was a long period of time between soa release and hak nerf in which various factors indirectly made fishing even less optimal to begin with

How does that even work? The placement of the mobs would be completely different wouldn't it?

Run around a room to aggro everything and burn it all down, always running to a corner or a wall to re adjust any laggers so when you go to move there isn't any problems.

Gears aggroing magic I just start casting cure to round them up faster so less movement.

I trust that completely, but then again it's something that requires me to be in front of my PC.
And, as a matter of fact, I wasn't fishing if I was in front of my PC but doing other things

I suppose you're right. I got most my gil from Plasm probably, maybe other things.
The time when Delve2 hit and mats were 10mils each at start was a good time to make GAZILIONS of gil.
But then again I was talking about fishing before SoA hit.
Someone was implying fishing has never been good, I was replying that while there likely were other things better/equal to do, Fishing was a nice option in its unique peculiarities, that is performing it while you're not at your PC.

Not that I do intend to reactivate a mule that's been unactive since march 2013, but I'm curious what else I could have done 1+ years ago granting me ~2mils gil a day without me being in front of the PC.

Fishing haks was never 2m/day. It was more like 1.5m ish a day if you could 24/7 it and find minnows.

I swear it was! Well more like ~1,800 or something. I didn't fish every day, but sometimes I was getting even more! Granted this depended on the 200+200 limit I could effectively get in a "day" (I didn't fish 24/7, so sometimes I could manage effectively "two days" of fishing in the same day thanks to the jpmidnight happenning at favourable times).
When I was fishing I was often capping the number of bites, and I wasn't using only minnows, which weren't a big deal to get anyway, moving between Whitegate and Port Windurst.
I was also using/crafting another type of bait, I don't remember the name, which wasn't as good as Minnows to catch Hakuryus, but it was better than no-fishing because of no-minnows

Maybe it's just bias, but I noticed a big difference in the catch rate on haks between 100 and 110.
So yeah, unless I was fishing only for a few hours, when I was going full head-on, it was ~2mils gil or more.
I guess I was doing it differently than other people (ligher sessions every day vs heavyer sessions but not everyday)
The total amount of gil in a week was probably the same I suppose but this is not a relevant factor from my perspective. Fishing for me was really just some way to get additional gil when I wasn't in front of my PC, I never focused too much on it and never went hardcore. I didn't even level fishing, I'm too lazy lol. Fishing on my main is like level 27 and I did that only because I wanted a Shaper's Shawl.

I'm still hoping someday that give us a bell that allows a 2nd Indi spell or something. Until then, I'll be content giving -100% attack and -55%+ defense during Bolster. Downside, now I gotta retest all this shit again. XD At least I hadn't done the +MDB and -MAB ones yet, I'll just get the after change values for them. +MDB already seems pretty substantial just from eye balling in WKRs though. Some other interesting ones for sure, Fury isn't that bad atm, at +25.5% attack. Precision is solid at 75. Excited to see just how buffed they're gonna make Geo for it to be desired. Even though we all know that won't happen til a third buff is available.

That's really only an issue with the playerbase at this point. There may be minor differences between BRD and GEO now, but it's not as if they matter in practice anymore.

I'd disagree, and I <3 Geo to death.

Brd can spread out their buffs as needed, Cor too to a certain degree. Refresh the mages, +DD buffs to DDs, whatever buffs the tank wants, etc. Geo is still limited to two, and should it split the two from focusing on one aspect, it's hindering it's ability to buff by quite a lot.

Sure, it could replace a Brd, but what do you lose? Indi-Haste the DDs, Geo-Frailty the NM, more or less the same purpose as a Brd doing minuets and marches. But what about the Whm blowing through MP in the backline? So you run back and Indi-Refresh him, Geo-Haste the melees, but now it's as if they're without minuets. It's a give/take, and with Brds ability to spread out buffs, 2 is just too short to make it work, IMO.

Brd + Geo though, that's a beautiful thing.
