    Omg... This is so comforting.
Sure this "superior" system has the potential of bringing back the "RME-only" mentality that has been displaced with the return of 75-era gearing paradigms...
But it seems that it's not going to do that...
    At least not yet.

Though they could have made them at least worth the grind... Though perhaps they intentionally gimped them to prevent the "RME-only", since they seem to dislike that.
    Perhaps....
    Maybe.......
    SE has learned....!?!?!?

The comment they made regarding them seems to indicate an either/or with Rare/EX i119 gear, not a new standard. At least for the time being. Acquiring enough Job Points for Su1 is the "cost" of not needing to participate in events that'd otherwise provide i119 items.

I think the main problem is that it's a bit steep for the intended purpose. Unless Job Points really get a lot faster to earn, the more casual (and new/returning) player audience that these are apparently intended for would also be less likely to be able to equip them. It'll get even messier when the ilevel cap goes up, and players need a bunch of JPs just to equip now-subpar gear.

The notion to have continued progression makes sense, but to me it seems like they should have just made more limit breaks in the style of Maat or whatnot. Stuff that demands having learned/skilled/geared a job in order to equip the next tier of gear. Job Points would probably result in that, but could still be leeched.

'course, requiring JPs takes a lot less work tuning AIs or whatever, and keeps players busy with grind...so win/win for SE I guess.

I feel like 20 JPs would be more appropriate for Su1 with whatever else they're planning for casual access, but that's also me being conscious about my disdain for excessive, pointless grinds. In alternative, I can't see job specific limit breaks ever being much of a thing since how SE envisions they play may differ from how we do it, both literally and with third-party tool use.

The people who aren't able to get in events to get the "real" 119 gear don't seem very likely to care enough about farming JP and buying crafted AH items over the incredibly easy solution of the not all that terrible Sparks/Bayld gear. The difficulty is out of whack with the reward here. I'm still a little wary that further expanded Su gear might arrive and beat the "real" endgame options, but maybe not and this will just be another addition to the mountain of examples of largely ignored or easily obsoleted gear for the casual players.

The other thing... they may well make CP/JP a lot easier to get over time, guess we'll have to see what the future events bring. Exp/merits used to be a big deal and are now a laugh. Cruor became a joke. Exp and Cruor both got especially easy to obtain in the last transition period between major expansions/eras due to VW (Abyssea made it easy, VW made it hard to not cap exp/merits without even having to farm for it or do Abby exp parties). Maybe CP will flow like water in some future event (i-level Abyssea... hmm?)

One idea the development team is looking into is some method to make it so you can lock the weaponskill an automaton uses.

In the future we are planning to add an even higher tier version of the Armor Plate attachment. Additionally, we’ll be making adjustments so that Stormwaker automatons cast protect and shell on themselves.

We’ll be adding new attachments that enhance accuracy. In regards to increasing melee skill through equipment and merit points, but there being no change in attack or accuracy, this is a bug and we will be fixing it in the January version update. Likewise, we will be fixing the current issues with the Attuner and Target Marker attachments in the January version update as well.

That is correct. Once the Automaton's skill was capped, any gear that can increase an automaton's skills as well as merit points put into Melee & Ranged skillls were not increasing the Automaton's Attack/Ranged Attack/Accuracy/Ranged Accuracy stats at all.

Hate to be that guy, but I'd be surprised if it's a net gain while working properly unless the master isn't engaged

well I mean, when something is labeled "PUP buffs" and there aren't actually any meaningful buffs of any description... just a bug fix of minute importance and some attachments that won't really do anything valuable in the long run. Locking which WS the auto can use is interesting, but they build TP slowly enough for it not to really matter.

Wait, no. I think you're misunderstanding.

Think along the lines of Cirque Pantaloni +2, which gives Melee & Ranged skill +10. One would assume the Automaton's accuracy and attack would increase with that equipped, but it does not. The same applies to Merit Points put into Automaton Melee and Automaton Ranged skill. It does not increase your puppet's Attack/Accuracy parameters.

Any gear with Pet: Attack or Pet: Accuracy is working fine.

    Unless you got AM3 up.

Seriously though, Sharpshooter with Coiler is not too bad at gaining TP when it can actually HIT stuff... >.> But in many circumstances it's annoying that you have to reposition to put it in melee range.
Sometimes you lose too much damage with the time spent through the repositioning thing.
You could use Valoredge Head to partially solve that, but that brings other problems with the amount of "right" attachments you can equip. (and noticeably bigger delay between Ranged Attacks...)
If they really raise the elemental caps of heads/frames then Valorhead/Sharpframe might become a more viable setup in the future.

I think the problem might be linked with the fact that your automaton was "skilling up" when you were adding gear with +skill or merits?
Say I'm capped at 240 skill.
I add an item with +10 skill.
Menu will say 250 but chatlog will show my automaton slowly skilling up from 240 to 250.

Maybe the issue is connected to that?
If so that has been a problem with Automatons from day 1 and nobody ever noticed.

Thanks for clarifying, Yeager. That makes more sense and it is a relief!

Hey, so, what are you referring to, here? I didn't think there was a way to get plasm other than doing fracture/field bosses or eating shards/beads.

That's what cor is for. Though really with the ability to cap magic and gear haste for autos it's not so bad unless of course you aren't wearing enough pet haste gear and/or keeping maneuvers up ie meleeing lol
