I had a lot of fun with Pankration waaaaay back when.

It was unfortunate that the best setups boiled down to a few rock-paper-scissors builds but even among them there was quite a bit of variety.

Not to mention the main Colosseum map never got used outside of a few cutscenes. Always imagined it as being a PvP arena + custom BCNMs made from people's Pankration mobs.

Looks like Escha is pretty much Abbysea 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Also with the Saturation set to 0.

basically Abyssea - Zi Tah; which isn't a bad thing, but greyscale could get old fast.

Sounds a lot like Abyssea Zi'tah indeed.
Hope those temporary buff won't end up being as vital/huge as Atmas were in Abyssea though.
I share Prothescar's concerns about the gray scale as well.

sounds very much like abyssea. lets hope the mobs there give CP too.
looks like abyssea with no lights farming and no time restriction but with atma restriction.

They didn't mention about cooldowns/gating systems to enter the zone though, similar to how you needed stones to enter Abyssea.
Wonder if there really won't be any sort of gating or if they just didn't mention it.

It's possibly a free to enter area? I suppose that might explain why Vorseals (which appear to be Escha's Atma) wear off at all..

i can imagine how the place will be cramped with players if there is no restriction. i hope there is none because stuff dies down after a while np

however one new zone alone isnt very much. i know its cost free but this seems less content then aby on release how is that supposed to last till august eith one zone only

Did they say they weren't doing monthly patches between the final scenario patches? I can't recall at the moment.

There's probably the restriction of missions, which require ALL the expansion missions...
Which is an actual gate, believe it or not....
Can't tell you how many times I've seen people in game or on any forum go "you mean I have to do RotZ/CoP/WotG/SoA to do X content"...
As if the missions weren't the entire plot of the game...
Worse they don't even finish either... They just get to w/e point and stop. Smh

So it will be surprisingly not AS packed as one initially thinks. (And ToAU still has ~1.5wk gate on it too.)

SE's answer to killing the game always seems to be Abyssea. Before FFXIV came out they clearly wanted abyssea to be the last hurrah where everyone is overpowered and can solo everything, much like getting your party in previous final fantasy games to level 99 and getting all the ultimate spells and gear. Now they're doing it again for the same reason (they want people to jump ship to FFXIV)

abyssea wasnt supposed to kill FFXI it was done to save it because of XIV failure at that time ¬.¬ and draw people back into 11, which it did. Abyssea was wonderfull. wtf you talking

Agreed. If FFXI is truly ending, they need to make one last bit of content that can be done for a looong period of time. Augments seem to be the draw here...again. But hey, if it makes the content last, I feel it's necessary. I just hope the events and NMs are challenging. I look forward to seeing what the big end game event they are planning turns out to be as well.

Abyssea was the death knell of FFXI, it was designed for people to have their fun and be done with the game and move on, which, unsurprisingly, most people did. No other event in the game caused so many long-time players to finally quit for good.

long time players were allready quiting before without abyssea because we all got TIRED of the same shit constantly during WoTG (there was barely any new endgame content during WotG). Abyssea was what brought me and alot of my friends back. The only people that quit during or pre abyssea were the ones that werent able to adapt from their high horse of slave-leadership because boting kings 24/7 didnt work anymore.

No it wasn't. For as many people that quit over the level cap rise (which is the real issue there, not Abyssea), plenty more came back. Logically, people could actually get back up to speed quickly for the first time in the game's life.

Abyssea itself stands out as some of the best content design FFXI has had. Highly accessible and beneficial to players of all stripes. They'll be lucky if this new content mimics that success - keeping players busy for years. Unlike SoA era content, it was implemented in the right order as well.

Giving players greater ability to solo/lowman is less a move to make them quit, and more one to allow them to stick around. That's what the borked implementation of ilevel got so wrong.

No, releasing content that's low man or solo able by average everyday players with same rewards is/was the games undoing. You can't really think that easily available content and rewards is a good thing for the players who plan on playing through it especially when considering people returning isn't the main point here. People who are never included in /t invite parties shouldn't hope for this content difficulty because it'll make them worse and less desirable in the end, which until new content stops, should be the goal
