The 10/12 thing is a lie. There is no limitation to "10 buttons" with XInput.
The cause is another. It's because 99% of gamepads have 2 analogue triggers, those are usually mapped as Z axis and create the issue you're talking about.
If you can find a gamepad with only digital buttons, you won't have issues in mapping 12, 14, 16 or 2000 buttons with Xinput.

Also, I don't think they can easily add DirectInput because they would have to change the support from DirectX 8.3c to DirectX 9 or higher.
That's totally doable of course, but it would be a larger scale change than just changing the gamepad.


I've been bugging them in This thread for over 1 year, then I gave up.


There are some possible workarounds that you can use atm btw.
1) XBCD => creates other small issues, but all in all it works if you have a Wired X360 controller.
2) Keyboard > Gamepad Mapper => It's a software (there are several) that allows you to map keyboard stuff on your gamepad. FFXI will think you're playing from a keyboard but you'll actually be playing from a Gamepad
3) Use Masahiko Morii's drivers => They work fine on Win7, even 64bit, but the Wireless ones do not work anymore. If you've got a Wired pad you'll be fine to use these.

After testing several stuff I gave up and just got used to use just 10 buttons (basically I use the bumpers for the macros and do not use Triggers at all)

Cool, I know some noobs that wanted to do the Eco-Warrior and Tour quests.

And when I say noobs I mean like actual 2004 throwbacks. One only plays as WAR/WHM and WHM/WAR while the other is a melee BLM (spent his remaining sparks on eminent dagger when BLM is his only 99) who I just found out can't access Adoulin because he's on PS2/PS3.

It's funny but a lot of those weird combinations can now work for solo plays since you have Trusts. The guide was clearly written with those expectations 13 years down the line!

Hmm, Im hoping there'll be some kind of reward in the future for catching every single fish in the game. I mean they ARE keeping track of it after june now so...

Edit: Just counted, theres about 130ish fish inthe game, 125 that are reasonable to catch and maybe like, pamtam kelp and shit dont count, which brings us closer to 120 fish.

No idea why SE didn't just make this quest require you catch EVERY fish in the game, including tricorn, in order to actually make us prove our fishing power.

Oh well, I think Im gonna go ahead and catch every fish in the game come june update anyways. Haha!

Hey alright, The Kuftal Tour is having difficulty adjusted. Maybe that means you will just need one player to do it lol and I can finally get it out of my log after all these years

Of course, given four Trusts you could swing once at the mob barehanded and have your goon squad summons obliterate it without contributing a point of damage. Sort of like having four real players who could actually function while "I CAN HIT THINGS WITH MY STICK!" BLM/WAR guy spazzed out and leeched exp, then was proud of how much his special snowflake contributed.

(Funny how none of these players ever had a parser.)

Lol dusk stones are hard to obtain... don't worry guys we will keep putting them into log in campaigns. Um they are still hard to obtain but I can get an extra one a month thanks SE for fixing that...

I do wonder (for the giggles) how much a geared BLM/WAR would do though. Some of their staff WS are already powerful (but I don't think many are affected by Berserk?)

When Campaign was more of a thing, I did BLM/SAM when I was in the mood. Though, at the time, Vidohunir wasn't good to use because of the innate MDB WotG mobs had there. Think the merit WS is physical if I remember right, though. Though, just like DRK, /SAM can suck if you wanna cast frequently. Still don't understand why they didn't just make Hasso/Seigan affect ninjutsu only since they obviously didn't want Ichi/Ni/TE being the tank standard even though people still tried for force it.
