Even with those charts, how'd people decide that there were different directions for success and for HQ? That always boggled my mind. Oh, so earth synth facing wind direction is more like to HQ huh? Okay sure.

I don't know how people decided it, but I remember a guy who claimed to be a prominent crafter with thousands and thousands of successful crafts and claimed that direction had an influence.
Personally I stopped believing in the direction thing long ago, but I still thought that lunar phase had an influence instead.
Guess I was wrong.

With all the rumors that SE killed over the years (well, not so many in the end) I wonder why there has never been an official post about this though.

Doesn't help when the Devs didnt ever give info out. One thing I liked about World of Warcraft is they told their players what formulas worked for their abilities and such. They tell u exactly what they changed about a move. Where as SE would jsut be like "We altered Trick attack" positively? negatively? why we so damn secretive. There is such thing as leaving a bit of mystery but man they could have dealt out some details.

People have told me aimin this way would give me more skillups but increase my break chances and I will be damned if it didnt always seem to play out that way. Then I would try it out the other direction and get less skillups and not break as much. Eyeballing it sometimes makes it seem to make sense. Also some people will just be stubborn as hell no matter who tells them or what they are told, they will jsut keep on believing what they do.

I think the majority of people has always been very skeptic about the direction/moonphase thing. But the point is: you have nothing to lose by doing it. Worst case scenario you're just losing time changing directions for no purpose, but it's not like you're getting some major negative thing.

What you lose is crafting frequency.

When you have to craft the same item 200 times in a row you only need to position yourself once, not 200 times.
So in the end it's not a big deal, no?
And until a while ago people just used bots like Exiled to craft and those did the positioning for you, so it wasn't really a big deal.

I dunno, I'm talking like a bit of an external viewer here. I've always hated crafting in MMOs in general, and specifically even more in FFXI because of the little degree of control left unto the player hands over the possible result.

You cant do 200 crafts in a small day/time window, so you lose craft frequency.

And what if it does make a difference and you position yourself in a way that hinders you? IF it affected something there is still no evidence showing which way is best. the "it doesn't hurt anything" camp is really just the "I believe this stupid theory but will get laughed at if I say so out loud because no evidence backs up my claim so I'll distance myself from what I'm espousing due to the psychological trait of wanting to control things that are out of my control" crowd.

You also lose something else when you believe directional crafting matters.....an objective expectation of what the rng will give you over time.

What if you are right that it has an effect but you have the wrong direction? Bam you lost. Also there is the whole doing it on times that are by nature less convenient easily making you miss out on other things or just taking forever

I made a Jinxed Coif yesterday and a Voodoo Mask today both while facing forward. N=2, forward is the best direction for HQs.

However, I went 1/90 on Cursed Mask -1s in West Adoulin. West Adoulin is not a good place to synth.

No West Adoulin is for crafting what rabao is for fishing where the normal things are backwards. So you were supposed to face backwards with your back to the merchant you would be npcing the nqs to. Trust me after 0/70 on Voodoo Diechlings facing forward I did this and went 2/4! For extra good luck I psyched the ncp out by almost npcing one of the HQs. This of course will ensure that next time he looks over my back while I craft he will be praying to Altana for my good luck in HQing in hopes that I actual do sell it to him next time and he can make a handy profit selling it to Prince Trion

I thought day of the week was at least plausible given the elemental nature of crystals. But I also never bothered to take notice of it and just crafted whenever I felt in the mood lol.

Given that moonphase actually affects fishing (wtf SE)...
I wouldn't be surprised if it also affected crafting too.

But the direction and all that was always bull.
