Good to see Tapatalk is consistently shitty across all localizations.

Anyway, Voidwalker doesn't drop HMPs or Riftcinder/dross. Only Voidwatch Notorious Monsters do.

PS. Are the names of the two events that similar in Japanese too? What was up with that year and the "void-" prefix?

Yeah, before they retconned Tartarus into being yet another "alternate vana'diel", it was pretty clear there was something else meant to take place in Adoulin.

In RoV they define Tartarus as one of the many "alternative" Vana'diel, like Lilith's Vana'diel, Abyssea's Vana'diel etc.

Pretty confident that was NOT how they intended Tartarus to be originally.

It's a thin line to decide who misinterpretated and who didn't, at the end of the day it's not particularly clear so it all boils down to personal interpretation, doesn it?
I'm talking about the part when Selh'teus talks about how he travelled to alternate vana'diel to take part of the crystals from each of those and generate his own personal protocrystal.
Balamor confirms this when you fight it in Ru'aun at warp #15.
Given how the protocrystals are pretty unique creations through which Altana created Vana'diel to keep Promathia from dying, it makes sense that the protocrystals only exist in alternate versions of Vana'diel (well tbf our is an alternate one as well, as we know from WotG, but w/e).

After this premise it sounds like in RoV they tried to give an explanation to Tartarus (retcon) by saying that it's actually just an alternate Vana'diel, given how Selh'teus was able to steal crystal pieces/energy from there, and if there were crystals to begin with, it had to be an alternate Vana'diel.


I didn't mean to say this is a bad thing. Yes, 99% of retcons are bad, but this is not quite the case in my opinion. It was a neat way to explain something that would have otherwise gone completely unexplained. So, even if it wasn't their initial idea for Tartarus, I think it was cool to change their plans for it this way and include it as part of RoV.

They didn't. They only said energy was being stolen from it. Never said it was another Vana'diel.

Selh'teus says he ventured to alternative dimensions to steal energy from the crystals in those dimensions.
If there's a Crystal => it's an alternate Vana'diel

You don't create a crystal just with random "energy" amounts, you need specific energy from other crystals, it's "special", it not just crystallized energy. If that wasn't the case he wouldn't really need to walk through all these dimensions to amass it, he had to because he needed a very specific type of energy to create the Reisen crystal.

Which brings us back to the "personal interpretation" part.
To me it makes much more sense this way, at least.

Except that in this case, your personal interpretation is going against what SoA established, so it not being an alternate vana'diel is the default interpretation.

Fact #1: Tartarus is not an alternate Vana'diel.
Fact #2: Sehl'teus is gathering special energy for his protocrystal in other worlds.

Conclusion: Places other than alternate Vana'diels can have this special energy.
