Afterglow for all
I hope it takes like a month to finish each weapon.
Not for ergon owners... and supposedly they are still going to have the harder no already glowing line of trials![]()
Where was this posted? I want to know who is complaining about this and what their complaints are.Combat Balance in the Future (1/22)
We wish to respond to the players who feel uneasy about the current situation. As we have mentioned before, we will continue to make adjustments to the game’s combat balance moving forward. Even in the upcoming February update announced today, we will be making adjustments.
Combat balance in the game must be considered carefully, so we appreciate continued feedback from the players.
No instrument/shield upgrades, if anyone was holding out hope. I will continue to baffle JPs.
Do the shields even really need updates? They're really damn good as they are...a way to combine them would be great so PLDs wouldn't have to constantly lose TP I guess?
The only Instrument I wish was reworked somehow is any extra song instruments because the way you have to shuffle between the different instruments is a real pain in the ass if something decides to do an AoE dispel, namely almost everything.
It was posted in a thread with plenty of back-and-forth between JP players. I think it was more of a "we're going to continue making combat adjustments, don't worry" to people concerned how the team restructuring would affect the game.
Aegis could use some more block rate like maybe add idk 50 skill on it. Ochain could use a little more skill and/or def. They've lost a bit since they made this let's not update shields thing so blockrates have dropped a bit. Like aegis basically doesn't block at higher level stuff and even ochain comes uncapped (and when it's not lol Orobo shield is better if you keep reprisal up) and well it's per block dmg has always sucked but now sucks even more
As far as combat... I'd guess people are tried of their being very little combat going on. Put a tank in front of a mob and keep everyone at range is awfully popular right now. Maybe change things so melees would be more desirably without having an Idris to mitigate AoE stuff? Maybe make rng useful again
Considering the last trial, and the pace of current end-game, I doubt it will be anything too difficult. If they refuse to split the paths I wish that afterglow users could get a refund of some sort.
i think this is balanced by the fact that they introduce mobs that need melee dmg or magic dmg. there are mobs that totally suck for nukers in every update. Remember the originall AAs on hard at release. Magic sucked balls, even with geo buffs (but then again there wasnt the MB update in place) Still even with mb update some mobs just plain suck for magic dmg
I don't think Ochain needs any +skill.
But the DEF on it is suuuuper low, and that would greatly help it.
Aegis could DEFINITELY use the skill though, and way more than just 50. It basically sits at a negative blockrate without reprisal or palisade... hyperbole, but only slightly. It's defense doesn't really matter IMO, since it's for "magic heavy situations"... so having a large defense would just make it "better" than Ochain and I think they've been pushing the two shields apart ever since Ochain first existed. (that's my explanation for why Aegis' blockrate diminished with every level cap jump)
Which brings me to the "combat balance" issue. I think they may mean that they'll cut down on the AoE magic-deathga spams in the future? Cause as it is, pretty much every nonUCNM/nonMBCNM, is magic AoE heavy. (I think that was their idea for nerfing Ochain... make it irrelevant. Which also had the added bonus of pushing RUN... but the heavy AoE severely reduced NIN and melee jobs... at least in large numbers.)
And I agree with Damane about the "everything is just MB"... some of the NMs around just laugh at magic damage. Though they are few.
Though to be completely honest... I'm kinda confused at the implied imbalance... cause jobs, with some minor exceptions (like COR lacking A+ marksmanship, for instance), are more balanced than they have EVER been... NMs on the other hand... current content is rather skewed.
Well my idea with that was to keep ochain at capped rate with reprisal. Which it isn't always but I think the lowest large parses Martel had was low 60% without reprisal so shouldn't take much)
And get Aegis up to around 50% with reprisal. Been awhile since I checked but I think Martel's tests had Aegis at around 15ish on the highest stuff he had big parses on (though we have +blockrate gear now...). Iirc it was like 4.15 skill to blockrate so with a little blockrate gear and 50 skill should be able to get base rate up to 30% so with reprisal 45%ish.
So maybe a tad more than 50 but not a huge amount or it will be comparable to Ochain in terms of total dmg blocked. Plus then you don't step on Run shoes by preventing more magic dmg and more physical than even Ergon Run with just 1 shield
There's no way to refund wasted time. Interpret that how you will. How many afterglows actually exist out of the current active player base? I can see a lot of relics since the trial is a lot less involved than the other two but I doubt there's more than 1-2 empyrean afterglows per server, if that. And out of those afterglows, how many were actually built legitimately? I don't mean playing vanilla, but not using any of the various exploits people used to cap gil, like npcing blinkers via scripts after afking cruor for 24hrs. Hoping around floors in salvage to kill the boss multiple times. The list goes on. Probably not many and yet there seems to be an outcry of injustice for some "easier way" when we don't even know what that way is yet. Or if it will exist at all.
I could be mistaken but I think the only thing SE has said at all about non-afterglow players is "they will have quite a trial ahead of them" or w/e the wording was. And that phrase was thrown at us several times, nothing more. From just that, you could assume they mean, "do the regular afterglow trials, sucker." If they said specifically it would be a new method and I just forgot, then I apologize. It has been like four months since they first announced this.
I donno I'm probably just ranting, but it feels like the people without afterglows have more grounds to complain about them stupidly forcing a town-gear glow requirement to be able to use RME anymore. Than "people got something I worked/exploited hard for easier/maybe than me, especially when 99% of those people don't want it!"
Yes, SE said that there will be a specific upgrade method for non-afterglow weapons that does not include the normal afterglow trial.
I can get behind the sentiment that most jobs are in the most balanced state they've ever been, but the real balance issue ultimately lies in enemies. I know they tried to tweak it some with AGI influencing enemy TP gain when struck, but the simple fact a melee TPing to 100% to drop their WS "nuke" gives way more than free nuking alone (insult added with SCH SCing), it's a no-brainer that safer play gets adopted to better guarantee success. We saw with the recent BST-a-palooza. SMNs were the rage in WoE days. This behavior even goes as far back as RNG burns. SE has simply been terrible with the majority of their enemy design choices with XI, be it wide range, high AoE damage or annoying debuff spam like Doom and Paralyze. Sometimes they even combine that shit.
So, while true that mob design has gotten a bit more creative since, say, the Abyssea era, they still don't have the best grasp on what a fair fight is. It's unfortunate, but also probably too late for them to really do the needed mechanic overhauls to add things like cooldowns to rapey TP moves so they can't be used back-to-back-to-back.
