Yeah, i knew top players who quit shortly after ps2 release and their first kirin kills, because to them there was nothing else but level a 5th job. The first mass exodus i noticed was after people got to sea and there was very little to do and terrible drop rates. However, my LS died off for good just after WotG release, cause it was an empty shell of an expansion. Then a few others quit at the level cap raise cause it was anathema to them

What i take from all this is it's impossible to please everyone and SE shouldn't even try. Some will quit due to falling behind if there's constant new content, and some if they get bored. It's a difficult balance

I agree with you and Nynja on that.
But oh well, kinda useless to complain about that now, way too late =/

Yeah to be fair I perfectly remember people moaning about that and threaten to quit game. Some probably really did.
I don't really remember as much of a fuss about Delve drops and gearing too fast until after Delve2 hits honestly.
These are the same rehased complaints as always. People didn't begin REMs for years because it was too much work. Then it wasn't. Now it is again. People 'geared too fast' when the cap was raised to 95 and they began to 3 box abyssea. Then they didn't. Then with delve 2 and merit bcnm they did again. Now with escha augments they don't.

The only thing that's changed is missions are done and i *think* they won't release a new tier of gear ever. People can give up on getting the true endgame gear and quit, or take their time knowing they won't fall behind again. Their choice

I was more saying that they could've still offered a somewhat long term goal, but... less lenghty if you get what I mean?
Especially for people who have multiple RME (not my case! Talking in general) having to "spend" 150m for each of them is a bit too "long" of a term for my standards?
FYI, 119 III weapons are miles ahead of 119 I weapons and other alternatives. Those weapons are also unlikely to be replaced if SE decide to increase ilv in the future. It shouldn't be cheap at all.

IMO it's well worth the investment. 1 week after release ppl already running with glowy weapons. Some finished multiple weapons in a few weeks. It's really not that long.

If someone feel "overwhelmed" because they have 10 mythics and all relics, then it's not anyones fault but themselves.... just don't make that many RME to begin with.

This is video game, ppl are bound to burn out or bored at one point of time, whether its long grind or not.

Mileage may vary by server, but as it stands right now, you couldnt just buy your way to a 121 weapon on Carby. There are 56 stacks of Plutons on the AH, 6 singles, and nowhere near enough in the bazaar's (that ffxiah has detected). Same with Beitetsu's, nowhere near enough to just throw down a fat stack of gil and get it done.

There's about 90 stacks of Plutons up atm on Siren, which is close but still would have to peck around for a week or so to get the last 11ish stacks. And assuming none are price gouging, it would cost roughly 74 mil to buy outright. Which is enough to buy another lvl75 relic. Some people are fine blowing that kind of gil on a mild upgrade, and they're probably the same people that were fine spending more on the original afterglow trial. I personally think it's dumb and would rather farm, but it's extremely tedious to do so solo and that's during the campaign. When it's over supply is going to plummet and prices will probably rise again. Assuming they don't keep doing the campaign every month that is.

I donno, the effort just seems a bit much even for a time sink, especially when melee are so useless in today's endgame and there's way easier to obtain, just as effective melee weapons if you actually bother to use a melee job for anything.

I finished upgrading Almace, Ragnarok and Tizona to 119-3 status within a month or so. It was me farming VD BC's almost every day for a few hours, but it was worth it. Do 7 -> refill merits -> do 7 -> refill merits -> do 7 -> stop / take a break. That was my method and while it did burn me out a bit, it was a personal choice because I like the RME's I have. I will eventually upgrade Bravura to 119-3 also, but only at a later date.

As for the "high level end game melee" argument, it depends what you consider "high level". It's been a moving target for years now. 135 content is easily doable with appropriately geared melees, 140 requires extremely good gear, and after that it's just not possible.

When the weapons first came out, there were probably tons of RME items collecting dust in peoples inventories or on mules...so all of a sudden those all had value and hit the market. Thats not the case today.

Going from 119-1/2 to 119-3 is not a "mild" upgrade, it's an upgrade that (for melee weapons) generally either moves the weapon from subpar to only comparable to other RMEs, or moves it from best in slot to ridiculous.

Even without counting the increased accuracy over their 119 version, most melee weapons get around a 20% DPS upgrade, which is a much higher increase than say, going from NQ to HQ abjuration gear. Non-RMEs don't compare in the least anymore. For example, Ragnarok, one of the worst DPS RMEs for their type at 119 (if you disregard the extra accuracy, it had similar DPS to NQ Senbaak Nagan, a 117 weapon), is now superior to the best non-RME great sword for pure damage (Montonte +1) even discounting the ~85 accuracy it has over a standard 119 weapon.

It's expensive, but the upgrade is commensurate with the price.

Depends on the weapon really. ergons don't really gain much unless you are big on melee geo/run don't even get glow while having the full glow trial. Similarly Burtgang is kind of meh.

On Ragnarok I waited till stacks of Beitetsu were around 1.1m. They dipped a little lower, but never hit that magical 1m per stack. I spent most of my days farming stacks of Alex to sell for 700k. In about 8 hours I could usually net 10 stacks or so, watching youtube shit while I did it. A pretty brainless activity. I started buying last week and finished buying on Monday, because prices were starting to go back up, as I finished with 1.2m stacks. While the AH never completely ran out, there were times where the folks selling were asking far more than what I was willing to pay. I imagine prices are going to go back up as soon as the campaign ends and people stop spamming the event, which is why I ran so hard trying to finish before it. Found out that 'afterglow' shows up in first person mode, so that's kind of annoying. Granted, the only reason I did this was for the glow; Nirvana I and Nirvana III are for all intents and purposes the same fucking weapon. SE really screwed over SMN there... but whatever. Bucket list item checked off.

I'm not sure what it's like on the other servers, but that's the picture on Ragnarok.

What is this Ambuscade shit? It looks terrible...the screenshot look like a solo Legion against a generic Shadow Dragon with Trusts. What is this I don't even?

I'm with you, man. A single event announcement picture is out and that's already enough to judge whether or not the event will be fun.

you're wrong about all that, except maybe the "melee useless" bit. That part is a serious problem SE just doesn't get, or care to. Right now if you wanna make these weapons worth the effort, strictly cause you *enjoy* melee, gotta limit yourself to like ilvl135 content + have friends who will tolerate melee or 10 box yourself. Very few LS or shouts seem to ever bring melee and these weapons won't change that

Not sure if you're being sarcastic. I mean let's not pretend there hasn't been a lot of shitty content released over the years.

    -Brenner
    -Chocobo Racing
    -Voidwalker
    -Elite Hunts
    -Campaign Ops
    -Bastion

That one picture told a lot. It's in a recycled zone. With recycled mobs. With trusts. It looks like some kind of solo content. If it was going to be fun and amazing, logic would dictate they would want to showcase the best screenshot they could muster. It's the most snore-worthy screenshot ever.
