The rest I went over in my last post about long-term communication and convergence.
Otherwise, I can't really think of any other genre of games where it's considered okay to be forced into waiting to do what you want to do. Would I want to play a version of Tetris where I have to sit through a 15 minute loading screen before I could begin? No. Do I want a Castlevania where a boss pops once every 24 hours and even then will drop crap 95% of the time? Nah. Where some are quick to cite people being impatient, it's more a matter of people wising to the trappings of time sinks and fake difficulties. Solo proponents aren't asking for something for nothing. In fact, it's probably rare they solo exclusively. They just want the solo time they are left with, in part due to no fault of their own, to be productive.
Objectively, if you lock 100 people in a room and tell them to be friends, it's probably not going to happen. That's the kind of ideal MMO bubble I get the vibe some people are wanting, when the reality is you're more likely to get a bunch of little cliques and the occasional conflict between them. Simply locking people in a room, or in this case a server, does not automatically translate to the formation of a community. You want accountability, fine, but even when XI was peak, there were thousands of people on each server we'd never interact with. Are they still part of the community, too? If continued resistance is more about ego, then you're not gonna budge me on that. I view work as work, regardless of whether it's one man's effort or a group's. Placing an arbitrary ceiling "because that's how it is" just isn't cool and reeks more of playground logic than actual care for the community, or more accurately, those outside your own bubble.
