Same, even though I don't play anymore, i'd love an excuse to play again, experiencing SoA when it came out was something that I loved since it felt like the game had renewed life in it.

An announcement thread has been made on Reddit
Interesting. This is an announcement about the sub reddit or about the game?
It's not an announcement about FFXI nor FFXI Reboot because I'm not Square Enix, and it is about something happening on the subreddit... but it's not something we moderators could do alone (or at all). So stay tuned because we'll be able to announce who else is involve very shortly! And I would not be announcing something general Final Fantasy here if it didn't involve 11.
Based on that my guess is grandmasters global release
or some kind of stupid reddit contest
How long till we tar and feather Spira?
Tuesdays are the general big release day for stuff in Japan.
I didn't like Grandmasters after playing it a while although the language barrier could have been a big reason.
They just added a countdown widget to the subreddit as well so... whatever it is it will be a release date announcement probably.
I don't think I've ever read that forum. Wow, someone saying they can't afford 12 dollars a month yet they are playing other video games instead of a 2nd job, people still use that excuse.
They reserved a spot in the widget for a countdown widget.
This is going to be disappointing no matter what it is. This has gone from "Okay I'm sort of interested" to "Wow, everyone involved is a retard". If you're going to announce something, just fucking announce it. The more you dress it up, the more it will be unable to match the hype. If it's not something official from SE, it's not going to matter to the majority of players.
EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying the people who worked on this are retarded, just that the way they are going about 'announcing' it is retarded.
I enjoyed it for a while, getting past the language barrier took me a while and I still can't figure out how some of the JP do fuckloads more damage than me even though I'm using the same abilities they are so I was probably missing something important still... It got a little stale once i started to reach a "gear cap" where getting upgrades was increasingly difficult to the point of near impossible... but they were never shy about giving you their "Gems"... I mean there was one event where I got like 15,000 Gems for logging in (a 10 draw is like 5k i think? So imagine 150 Mythril in RK, and the next few days still more, and these events happened every couple months).
Which leads to the bad news, Though the JP got a fuckload of free gems/etc/super cool banners, they usually coincided with something releasing in XI... Anniversary, the release of the final Rhapsodies, etc... so I mean... I doubt we'll see those awesome things NA if we get this game which is superbly depressing.
That and the BCNM "endgame" really sucked and was grindy until they added the patches that gave cumulative rewards for completing them.
