It's not unreasonable to argue for Hizamaru being the worst, and even then, 3/5 pieces (Head/Body/Legs) have very strong uses.

Head: excellent (potential BiS) MNK PUP TP piece any time you're not getting capped magical haste, thanks to Martial Arts +10 plus great acc/atk. Not so useful for NIN SAM, but half of the 4 jobs on the set get something good out of it.

Body: "just" an idle regen piece, but regen+10 blows away the next best alternatives

Legs: one of the best WS pieces for STR WS in general, and any WS with high fTP.

Feet are not incredibly impressive overall, but do have an excellent niche use for NIN DW+Acc TP sets if not getting good haste buffs, even for people with high end gear options to choose from. I personally use 'em in a DW+22 TP set that caps delay reduction if getting Haste II only (or equivalent).

Hands are the only complete dud of the set, starter Acc gear.

    And no multiattack =/
Plus realistically there are not really many situations where you're not getting capped magical haste, but despite that my biggest problem with head is the low haste value.
    With my default sets just swapping head to Hizamaru doesn't allow me to stay at 26% and requires me further changes/compromises in other slots ;_;

    This means no Flume Belt.
Also Evasionist is ok (mine is 3+4) but Ogma is so much better it's a shame to lose that to use Evasionist.
To cap without Evasionist you'd probably need to use that 3% unity grip, Defending, Vocane, Loricate+1, Staunch and then I guess Genmei Earring.

Still, with such a set you get decent DD stats, lots of acc, good PDT but at the same time you lose all the nice stats on the typical tanking items (Meva, Resist Ailments, Enmity, Enmity Retention, Damage>MP conversion etc).

Regardless of that I guess it can be a nice set for situations where you feel you don't need to go full defensive, a "TankDD" set so to say.
I have one but I think I might be moving to full meghanada for that I suppose. Thanks for inspiring me!
Right now for the haste I'm doing Hurch'lan Sash and Hasty Pinion +1. Not perfect but lets me crank out a bit more acc and get 25% haste with stuff I had lying around.

As far as Flume belt I find my mp is usually good on RUN but if you did put flume in would let you swap some other pieces out easier too. Really was just a quick and easy set I thru together a couple of months ago I'm sure there are probably better ways to optimize at least haste/acc while maintaining pdt. Especially with new gear

As far as capes go part of why I haven't bothered with Ogma's for tping is: 1: already got perfect dt and good other stats (except enmity could never get that lol). 2: already making like 20 other capes so tp cape for run is kind of way down on the list, especially when I already have 2 ws ones. 3: Defensively Ogma's is pretty terribad and offensively the potential acc is nice but it's going to be a really long time before I got dyes (fucking dye gates man) to spare so would only be a little more.

And yeah you get the concept it's not really meant for tanking really hard stuff (actually got a couple sets for that depending on the focus. like more absorb/dt vs resist meva ones) because lets face it you probably wont do any meaningful dding in those fights and might not even be actively attacking. But this ends up basically similar to say a no shield swapping ochain pld durability (a little better against magic/breath/stats a little worse against some physical) while still doing meaningful DDing. Enmity hasn't really been much of an issue since gswds still do pretty competitive dmg when they are oa2-3. Should note this build somewhat leaning on said oa2-3 and to a lesser extent temper as otherwise the loss of multiattack stats (particularly DA) would completely destroy the tp gain. It's part of the reason why say evasionist over ogma as the 10 DA is normally too huge to turn down without even considering the extra acc but is like 1% increase in attacks per round with oa2-3 up.

Overall it's pretty fun set to use/play around with when you can and throw out a constant stream of resolutions or Dimidiations. Still tends to be a little weaker than cdc/savages and more heavily dependent on att/-def support but comes at a great frequency. Would probably be even better if I tried to actually make a hit build into there...

meghanda has low meva compared to RUN empy. not like it matters much for magical dmg, but sure comes in handy to avoid status ailments

Whatever happened to "shit is situational"? Is that no longer valid when it comes to ambuscade gear?

I think after so many years of FFXI "shit is situational" is self explaining and everybody knows.

Am I being whooshed? Unless you do a specific all in defensive build that clearly isn't what is being talked about I fail to see what is wrong with that statement

In what world is a straight up 6% increase to raw parry rate (in addition to the other stats augmented onto it) considered "defensively pretty terribad"? All in defensive build vs whatever you're trying to achieve by running meg+1 set has no bearing on this, Ogma is better either way and the only situations I'd ever see Evasionist coming out ahead would be A) the monster has an avoidance down aura or B) you have no shell and are about to take a giant magic attack to the face and need the extra 5% DT.

Sadly enough, there are indeed plenty of party situations I run into these days where I'm not getting capped magical haste on my non-BLU melee DDs, necessitating more delay reduction gear like DW sets on my NIN DNC or Martial Arts gear on PUP MNK. It's not all that uncommon for me to get 30% haste from haste 1 + Mighty Guard, period (and that assumes MG stays up full time). If you're not in a party with multiple non-BLU melees, it doesn't strike me as that surprising if you might see no BRD and a GEO using buffs other than haste, especially for stuff where people might go with whatever jobs are around in the LS and not optimize to a great extent (random pickup Ambuscade, SR, CP parties, etc.) So there ya go, but absolutely YMMV.

I've seen in stuff like Ambuscade that a lot of random GEOs are so used to BLU DDs that they really need a reminder to use a haste bubble when they're with a party containing mostly other types of melee DD - and sometimes that's the answer, just bug the support to do a better job. But if I'm in a party with BLU BLU MNK or something, I get it that they might want to use different buffs that don't include haste.

Anyway, the point remains that H2H users not getting capped haste is a legitimate enough possibility, and there's an ambuscade piece that's at least in the conversation for BiS for that scenario. That's better than just trash starter gear, which supports the point you were making earlier that ambuscade has some pretty solid stuff in the armor sets. If even the *worst* set of the first five (and a case can be made for Hizamaru as the overall least impressive) has more than half of the pieces as viable BiS candidates for certain fairly plausible scenarios, that's not too bad.

Perhaps I exaggerated slightly but surely you are as well or just ignoring anything physical related to evasionist. Which is why yes builds matter as you will be capping pdt easily otherwise.

Assuming you are capping parry rate and have full gifts and jt your base parry rate would be 41% going to 47% approximately 10% reduction in dmg not counting things that can't be parried. Even less if you don't have all the gifts or aren't capping base rates. Even if you were at 72% pdt before cape ie as far as physical was concerned might as well be unaugmented you'd still reduce physical dmg slightly more. Perfect fit scenario of going from 67% to 75% is a 24% physical dmg reduction. Not to mention consistent reduction generally better than hit or miss kind like parrying or blocking until you get to really high amounts and it works on all physical. Though parrying has some advantage in giving you more tp and mob less

Of course with Battuta up that changes things since fully merited would bring your pre gear parry rate up to 77 so that extra 6 ends up being a 26% dmg reduction more if you consider swapping in Erilaz legs. Maybe more if we ever figure out what Futhark bandeau does. Not to mention all the extra tp and counter dmg you'd get...

A purely physically defensive Ogma's cape with 30 VIT on it would also give 63 defense, which is another ~5% reduction in damage (assuming ~1200-1300 defense with Protect V), as well as whatever small benefit there is from reducing a mob's fSTR by 30.

Slapping on 10% haste would also free up your belt and ammo slots for PDT or better accuracy if necessary.

You know, talking about this, it's almost making me want to make a VIT/ATK/ACC/DA back for my Dark Knight's PDT set, now that VIT got a big buff.

Oh yeah purely defensively is different. This was talk just about mixed builds of getting around capped pdt while cranking as much acc as you could. For real tanking I'd do more like meva/hp first then maybe a more physical oriented one.

So some new dev posts. Not sure I'm reading it right but sounds like when they added new zones to chocobo dig to the database it messed with stuff already in there and then those mistakes propagated further and they still trying to figure out all what is spaghetti

I was on vacation. Now I'm not. Doesn't seem like I missed much though. =P

The Cursna post is kind of weird. The new post says that Cursna has no cap from Healing Skill, but they also edited one of the earlier posts with the new percentage at 500 skill without editing out the part that implies it caps at that skill. Sometimes I don't get how they can screw up these numbers, is it that hard to just look up their own settings?

Another month of no HTBF campaign (and no doublecp either but that's ok I guess).
We haven't seen a HTBF campaign since when, march?

    Sigh...

Adding a feature like this would be very difficult. The information of which items the player has stored is only accessed when the player trades the Storage Slip to the Moogle. Because of this, the steps needed to confirm which items the player has would be no simpler than just trading the item with the Storage Slip to know if the item is already stored. We hope the players understand the difficulty in implementing such a change.
Theres a windower addon that does exactly this, so it cant be that difficult.

We will discuss this. However, because certain quests progress based on the player's location, we may need to "wash out" the flags for these quests before we can make this change. It may take some time, so please understand.
Its been a while since I first got access to Tavnazia, but I'm certain you can freeroam all three floors the moment you enter that zone.
Unless they mean there are certain cutscenes that trigger when you hit a certain point in the zone, but since when has that caused problems? Dont you get the dynamis cutscene after clearing 5.2 no matter if you enter Xarc from the telepoint, outpost, beaucedine, or from the castle itself for example?
