best part is, BLU's burn/frost spells scale with level, which is what elemental DoT black magic should do.

Therefore the solution is obviously to nerf blu version.
I can already foresee their response to BLU/SMN DoT. Something along the lines of:
"While it is true that BLU and SMN have stronger DoT spells that scale with level or INT, these spells either need to be currently set (slots/Blue Points) and may affect their traits/build in the case of BLU, or in the case of SMN waste a Blood Pact cooldown/switch out Avatars. We feel these limitations justify the increased strength and scaling potency of the DoT spells for BLU and SMN. As for BLM, if we were to raise the potency of Burn and Choke etc (which are always available, are low cast time, and cost very small amounts of MP) to the same potency as BLU and SMN DoTs, which have several limitations imposed on their use, it may disrupt game balance, also bearing in mind that BLM already has extremely powerful tier VI elemental spells and Death."
Considering Impact isn't even a BLM spell...
It's not a spell in general tbf, we use Impact through a level 90 item we gained in Abyssea.
Kinda preposterous Impact spell didn't get added in game through normal means, if you ask me.
(well there's the Fenrir version for SMN of course)
Well that already counts since SMN has it, it is kinda silly though. It should be a Time Mage spell for the new expansion!
Not sure making Impact the job-specific flavour of a new job would be particularly effective considering the spell has already been available to a plethora fo mages through the use of Twilight Cloak
What someone said about making debuffs scale better with skill/stats make sense though. I mean a new tier would be better but if they can't then why don't adjust the scaling formula?
I wish the same could be said for enhancing magic. So few enhancing spells actually rely on enhancing skill, such a shame![]()
It would be also nice if spells like haste, haste II, Blink etc would scale with enhancing magic skill. There is not much of an incentiv for enhancing magic skill outside of phalanx, enspell and barspells. Woulndt mind a RDM with a high end enhancing magic skill pushing haste II to 40% haste or so and blink granting several shadows depending on skill etc.
My main concern with the skill = potency thing does involve duration. Remembering RDM life prior to Composure and the Empy set, I really wouldn't want to go back to just a 2x rate for self-casts. Obvious benefits for longer duration include MP efficiency and reactive flexibility since you're not locked so much into the buff cycle. This isn't to say skill shouldn't also effect duration, much like Barspells benefit, but I just can't see SE being that kind. Plus not everyone's on the gearswap train to differentiate between self/other casts automatically.
That said, if spell slots are still a concern, I frankly think they should revamp/consolidate. Munge all the barspells into a singular Barelement spell. Status effects would get Barailment. Same for songs. Just doing that would free up like 20+ slots to work with, and this is before considering cutting things like Haste II to instead let it scale with skill or benefit from a level 50+ job trait or two that'd let RDM emulate/surpass current values. Blink really should scale like Occultation does. Stoneskin should rival WHM's cureskin before item bonuses. And much as BLU is popular nowadays, lord knows like 90% of its spell library is non-functional unless it fuels a good trait.
Honestly, it's stuff like this I do wish the private scene was more active on, just to give people a taste of how things could be, but things either wind up branded impossible or they get stuck in whatever vision of the game/era they personally hold.
Temper I/II also scale (impressively) through skill. However, Phalanx caps rather low and, outside of Accession, gains more through direct +Phalanx gear anyways.Originally Posted by Damane
So seems the dmg adjustment is for h2h lol. And looks like they boosting physical bp. Some qol stuff and lol more equipment for adventuring fellow and all new graphics for anniversary event!!!
Was hoping for buffs to scythe and ranged, too, but I guess at least the one weapon they're buffing needs it.
Think I'm gunna bug report it because it has to be an oversight when they greatly increase the pdif of literally everything except ranged and even went back and did it for ranged pets. Should find old values to really point at the difference
Just means there will be a new armor or weapon or something. They've always referred to new items as having "new graphics" and "create new graphics" in the patch rubric things they always post.
I'm betting that they just change animations for the event or something stupid like that. Like oh my the moogle spins the other direction now!!!!
what did that synthesis section mean? something about deliverable items and such? Only thing I could think of was something GP related?
