Golden Time

Summary: Tada Banri, a newly admitted student at a private law school in Tokyo, found himself completely lost after the opening ceremony, trying to find his way to the freshman orientation. At that moment, he ran into another lost freshman from the same school, Yanagisawa Mitsuo, and they hit it off at once. Somehow arriving at their intended goal just on time, there appeared in front of the two a beautiful girl holding a bouquet of roses. The girl then whacked Mitsuo across the face with the bouquet and handed the flowers over to him. "Freshman, congratulations", was all she said, and then left. The stylish, well dressed, perfect woman that had swung at Mitsuo was his childhood friend, Kaga Kouko. As children they had promised to marry each other one day, fulfilling their dreams. In order to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and taken the examination for this well known private college, but now she showed up in the freshman orientation hall. She too had taken the law school entrance examination, catching up with him there.

Good characters, interesting chemistry and overall just fun to watch. Episode 3 was nice and even though they go the amnesia route it doesn't seem annoying...yet. We'll see.

I liked this anime... until I read the manga. They are BLITZING through the manga, and skipping over a lot of the nuances and charm and comedic bits that make the manga really enjoyable to read. I'll keep up with the series, but guessing that they want to pack in as much as they can in what is probably a 10~12 episode season, I don't think the anime will really compare to the manga.

Looking at the un-scanlated chapters, there really aren't that many left either. I'm guessing anime-original ending.

So disregard my earlier comments. I had no idea that both the anime and the current manga are based off of a light novel series. Which has a total of 5 novels at the moment, the last episode of the anime just hitting the end of volume 2.

I'm still enjoying it, but the whole emo, ghost original-Banri figure is really fucking annoying lol. "Everything is going great, I have a hot girlfriend, I have friends, school is going well, my life is fantastic, BUT IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER BECAUSE THE OLD ME LOVES SOMEONE ELSE AND THEREFORE EVERYTHING IS REALLY TERRIBLE FOR ME, THIS WEIRD, KIND OF LIKE A GHOST BUT NOT REALLY FIGURE!!!"

I mean, I get that it has to be there for there to be drama in the series. But it does get annoying when it always pops up right when something nice is going to happen

Agreed, I like the show but shit take what you can get. Koko is still crazy enough to make this fun to watch though, and everything's good when the ghost isn't being emo.

Linda needs to back the fuck up from this situation, but we wouldn't have much of a show without her. I originally thought Koko was the nutcase, but after 12 episodes in (still have 2 more to go to get caught up), I think Banri is the fuckup.

I thought he was one of those prototypical "won't listen to anyone and is mega-stubborn" type of dad characters. And then the end of the episode happened lol.

Absolutely great episode. Show seems to improve with each episode. And ya the dad was awesome.

Do you guys have any recommendations to anime similar to Golden Time? I caught EF - A tale of memories since people were drawing a parallel between Koko's voicemails to Miyako's voicemails and I really enjoyed it. I have the second season queued up, but wouldn't mind having more stuff to download.

Clannad, Arakawa Under Bridge (though, this is a lot weirder), Honey and Clover, Itazura na Kiss, Kimi ni Todoke, Nodame Cantabile, Kokoro Connect and Da Capo (can't remember much about this tbh) are all I can think of.

Honey and Clover and Itazura na Kiss are probably the closest I can think of.
