To be fair, expecting everyone to enjoy everything about the game is pretty short-sighted.
I got my first 50 in two weeks and that was me dabbling in everything and finding them boring compared to just running dungeons and getting gear.

No, I made the choice to progress because I wanted to see what end-game content was like. At the time hardly anyone knew Coil had a lockout and that eventually it would only last for 2 hours on a monday evening so why are you surprised that people wanted to get there and to experience it? Like I said, I don't give a shit if you play with your dick for 3 months while waiting for another patch to come out 'cause that's your business. If someone who has a mind to progress I dunno...actually progresses, then they'll find there isn't much shit to do.
No one cares how long it took you to get to 50. I mean seriously, why is the way you play a game even a thing people need to consider? So you play the game like a tourist (and to a point, didn't play it at all) and that's why you think the content we got is fine? Makes sense.
So the content is fine...unless you're legacy or with a mind to actually do shit? Sounds good to me.
remember when Yoshi-P said the game starts at 50
man, and people thought I wasn't telling the truth that legacy wouldn't have much to do on release, so it was best to go non legacy server and start fresh >.>
Then again, I'd probably be all done with what I am currently working on now if did play my old lv50, which was to get all lv50/all relics and all gold weapons and more >.>
Then again, SE did make the game "easier" then 1.0 by a large margin.
1.0 Character that I played probably 10-14 hours a day on for 3months or so (work only)

2.0 Character i played 8-12ish hours per day for 2 months (class+work)

Anyway, I thought the original discussion here is 1 vs multiple characters >.>
I would stick with 1, as there are some achievements with nice rewards, and SE will probably expand on the achivment system + rewards down the road. Multiple characters would be nice to do stuff like... do BC a 2nd time a week, but that would be about it (oh and shards from lvling to 10 crafts).
I rather like my "resources" all in 1 spot though, and not spreadout. Plenty for me to do on a sin gle character, so I wouldn't really start a 2nd character. Been pretty busy on my single character as is >.>

The most appealing part of FFXIV (and to an extent, FFXI) is the "all-in-one" job system. I absolutely hated leveling new alts in other MMOs, and I'm kind of surprised no other MMO developer has tried to copy Square's system.
Gated content sucks but there's no way I'd go through the mind numbingly boring process of leveling a brand new character just so I can have an extra 2-3 hours worth of content every week.
Sidenote: it would be nice if retainers were shared between characters or if the number of retainers you could hire was based on your account type (ie. 2 retainers per character/open character slot).
Would give more people an incentive to get the "deluxe" subscription and would make all these empty character slots useful for people with legacy accounts while also resolving the issue of not being able to send items between characters on the same account.
Retainers double as market restriction though, so not sure how that would work.
Either you'd get the same two retainers for all your characters (i.e. hell no) or every legacy/P2W player would have 320 AH slots per server.
I've never had an issue with not having enough slots to sell items across 2 retainers, but I don't go out of my way to do a lot of selling either.
I do know that already the 100 item limit in the purchase window isn't enough for a lot of items, so maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea.
Still, should be able to share items between characters on the same account, that's just dumb as shit.
No one cares how I play, but I should care how you play? Cry more about how a game that's been out for roughly 2 months doesn't have much to do at end game, even though it came with more then most MMOs do anyways. (2 dungeons, 4 primals, and a raid, 3 sets of gear to work towards with crafting actually being SEMI-worthwhile at end game other then giving group buffs or stat bonuses) Do people forget that we got FFXI with an expansion already there? Or that WoW didn't have 90% of the shit it has now during launch?
You want a full game the moment you buy it? Go purchase something that isn't an MMO.
The game...of waiting.remember when Yoshi-P said the game starts at 50
I would like to see achievements give more, like vanity shit other then crowns. Maybe chocobo armor, and other crap that isn't vanity helms.I would stick with 1, as there are some achievements with nice rewards, and SE will probably expand on the achivment system + rewards down the road. I've found a fun way to make this game interesting while I wait for resets and shit. I've decided to take gladiator up to 50 while role playing it in a certain way. I'm not unlocking paladin because he's not a paladin. I'm not using shields because I'm edgy like that. I'm only using a single sword because dual wielding isn't present yet. And I'm stacking as much skill speed as possible because I need to swing fasterz. Can you guess who I'm supposed to be?
Probably going to be leveling it up with my friend as he levels up arcanist. As we'll make up the tank+healer whenever we dungeon people will have to deal with it. This is one of the ways we're going to have fun together, doing stupid silly shit.
are you sonic the hedgehog or deadgye the aneurysm inducer
Needs more crawling in my skin. I'll probably be dying my armor all black if that gives another hint. Need to be super edgy super fast super skilled.
I used the FC chest to pass stuff between my chracters since this is annoying to deal with, lol.
My friend actually does this. The other week he pretended the "demon wall" had moved to his body after it died and possessed him. He then ran around spouting gibberish in party chat, emoting and other things to make it appear as if he was convulsing violently... until the WHM Esuna'd the demon out of his body. It took about 5 minutes for the pug WHM to finally give in and play into his roleplaying game. He wasn't happy.
Where the hell are you getting this? OK, you're just being stupid now. Like I said before, I don't care that there's nothing to do because I'm willing to wait so it doesn't bother me, if you think that's crying about content not being there then you're an idiot. But I guess I knew that already.
Hint: SAO
thats what i thought anyway. extra funny because when i first started on GLD i immediately thought of SAO i guess because of the no shield at level 1.
