If the Timberwolves trade Love to one of the teams outlined in that article, it seems more likely the Bulls would be able to offer the better package, unless GS willing to give up Klay Thompson. The biggest problem for GS is they are basically out of draft picks because of the other trades and being unable to trade picks in consecutive years. A package from the Bulls of Butler + this year's 2 picks + Mirotic saves the Timberwolves cap space and gives them a solid 3 and a potential 4 moving forward.
Playing with the trade machine..GS could offer David Lee + Klay Thompson and it would work under the cap. That might be a better return, depending. But GS has no real picks to offer, and GS will be good moving forward anyway, so I don't see how that works out for the Timberwolves. Better than letting him walk for nothing, but still.
Bulls would have to do the picks + (Taj + Butler + Dunleavy) to make the cap work. Alternatively Boozer + Butler works for salary reasons. Why the Timberwolves would do the second is beyond me though. Also the Bulls would now have ZERO realistic options at the 2 and the 3 as compared to having just no options at the 2 before. If the Bulls amnesty Boozer, they can prolly fit Love in under the cap next year for just the picks. The Bulls could move Taj in a second deal if they wanted to, or keep him as their sixth man.
Either team going to have to give up a shit ton to get him though, regardless.
i could see the suns making it work. they have a bonanza of first-rounders to trade and are an up and coming team with lots of young talent and a good new coach. i can only imagine a guy like him being thrilled just to be in the playoffs year after year.
