Tanaka was/is a huge deal over here, but he'll Kerry Wood himself given the chance. He threw 155 (I think) pitches in game 6 of the finals (loss) and then went in as a closer the next day to win game 7.

Their rotation was projected to have the third highest fWAR in the majors pre-Tanaka (it's actually a pretty good rotation all things considered). The infield is shitty (somewhat fucking expected after how good it was the last decade+), but they improved up the middle and hopefully shouldn't be missing four starters from their everyday lineup.

They sorely needed another legit high-upside starter and they got one; you think they give a shit about dumping 7/155 or "ace money" on Tanaka? they'll swallow that contract if he faceplants like they did with ARod's extension. Quit being a fucktard.

Tanaka isn't a 'high Upside' starter. He's a Ceiling guy you dolt. People aren't lauding what he can become they are intrigued about what he is now. He's nowhere near the talent Darvish is.

He isn't a prospect in the traditional sense so both terms apply. I don't know what the fuck you've been following, but people are most definitely intrigued in what he might become stateside. His ceiling is a #1, at the same time his upside is still fairly high (better than any current FA alternative).

He's nowhere near the talent Darvish is.

No fucking shit. They didn't go after Darvish because they were planning on getting under $189M (which is probably gonna exceed $200M in the next CBA anyways); they didn't value Tanaka more than him, it was just the circumstances that led to it.
