According to BR, Tigers are sending the Rangers $30M as part of the trade. Still terrible for the Rangers.

Both teams win here, unless Profar is a huge bust. Tigers can get Miggy back to 1B, free up logjam for their top prospect, and free up some money to re-sign Scherzer. Rangers solved their 3 biggest offseason issues with the trade:

1) Free up their infield logjam so that Profar can be an everyday player - Kinsler was against moving to 1B or the outfield, and the Rangers didn't want to go through the Michael Young circus all over again.
2) Add some left-handed power to balance out their right heavy lineup
3) Replace Mitch Moreland and/or their DH - Fielder will play both equally most likely, with Moreland sticking around to platoon those positions.

Basically they get Fielder for ~$19m a year, which is much less money than he would get on the open market as of this moment if he were an FA, mainly due to the lack of power options. S

Most likely still ends up being a bad contract in 3 or 4 years but the Rangers new local cable deal is about to go live and they can afford it. Rangers needed to extend their window.

Most people in my area west of Detroit fall into two camps. 1)casual fan who loves Prince and is super mad at Detroit. 2)Baseball fan who sees the value in unloading the contract while picking up an awesome 2B which Detroit has lacked for quite some time. Prince's playoffs were terrible and for that kind of money the Tigers need better.

With how thin the free agent market is, I could see a team (AL only) giving Prince a 20m a year contract. Read on ESPN today that unless the Dodgers sign him to an extension, the best position player free agent next year is going to be Hanley Ramirez.

Bourjos sucks, I don't know why so many people are calling the deal a steal for the Cards unless Freese is more injured than it seems. Trading a legitimately good 3B in a league devoid of 3B talent for a pair of 4th OF's is fucking stupid, I'm sorry. They could have gotten way more than that for Freese.

Because Jon Jay sucks dick. They must be high on Wong because they can move carpenter to 3rd and place Wong at 2nd and eventually Taveras in right (or left, idk).

Freese is a legitimately fringe-average to average 3B that played terrible defense last year. All of Bourjos's value comes from defense and baserunning. It's a pretty "fair" deal.

As Headspace said, they open up a middle infield spot for Wong by moving Carpenter to 3rd. They can replace Jay in RF with Taveras whenever they bring him up.
