Edit : ah shit, I'm finally playing a new Mass Effect game
have been playing a bit and watching some streams, there's some pretty annoying graphical bugs and the character/actor body and facial animations are even worse than the ones in DA:I (which weren't too bad) and it's really throwing me off big time, as a human being with a natural connection to body and face language. Going to take a lot of getting used to and I'm really upset that they allowed the character animations to get pushed out in this "finished" state. The rest is good so far.
bonus: male ryder's upper body "animation", especially when running, really bothers me. it's like all of his torso muscles are paralyzed.
How are you playing? I just tried to get in and can't.
If you're on PC and have Access, go to the game page and toggle thru the different editions until it shows the Trial option on the right side. For console idk
Ryder Sr is supposed to be a combination of your characters, but looks like it uses whatever initial preset you went with, and not any changes you make. So Sr looks fucking nothing like either sibling.
Edit : oh man seeing it more and more. Ryder especially has some whack ass mouth animations.
BTW fwiw for those wondering, outside of occasional stutters (which I'd chalk up to the game still installing while I'm playing) my framerate is generally staying in the 70s with Ultra settings on a laptop 1070 (1080p)
Based on the little I've watched today, male Ryder's run doesn't look any weirder than Shepard's did.
Human facial animations do look a little fucked though. Probably because nobody's eyes ever move.
Edit: Environments look real nice though. And male Ryder's voice sounds good to me.
The environments are really well made (aside from the overuse of gross bloom lighting) and the Tempest is really, really well made. General movement, combat, and playability feels really good. Just a shame that their character and animation artists dropped the ball. Animation issues are less noticeable on aliens, probably because there isnt a "standard" in my mind of what they should absolutely look like despite ME1-3 ingraining them in my brain, that said I haven't seen enough of a variety in aliens to really say. I can say that the way every alien's lips move is very bad, it really does look like they used the human lipsync/facial template for all the aliens too.
Basic human things like forehead movement/cheek inflection/etc does not exist. Eyes do not move or close/open/change shape, everyone has a 100 mile death stare permanently. It feels really unnatural.
edit: just saw a Kett dropship drop off some soldiers in the Giant Bomb stream. those drop animations legit looked worse than Halo 2
I went male Shepard last time and kept hearing how good FemShep was. Might have to go female this time D:
Downloading on XB1 now. 43.9 GB! I'll let you know how it goes.
Facial animations only seem really whack with the Ryders, the rest seem generally OK outside of what proth was talking about with the eyes.
Also some weird transparency glitches, but I'd assume those can be ironed out.
Reading some early reports about the game are making me want to cancel my pre-order lol.
There's definitely some issues, but overall what I'm seeing in the trial so far looks good to me.
how come MGS1 on the playstation had more realistic faces than this game?
A lot of the reports that have been negative are by people who haven't played mass effect before. There's quite a few things that they carried over from the original trilogy into this game that seems to irritate new players, like the out of combat movement. I'm not sure why they chose to carry that over considering this on a new engine.
I am not going to get over Dinesh being one of the primary characters. At least his character isn't rocking a gold chain.
does he mention a snack dick?
These animations are incredible.
