So I dunno if this got covered and I missed it, but apparently if you try to create a custom match with just 2 people (you + friend) it cycles forever and never matches you with everyone. But if you have 3 and need a fourth, it'll match you up.
And if you try to start it with 2, it just puts the two of you in there without 2 more regular people or AI people, making the missions very difficult to complete.
What in the hell Bioware?
I've had this happen, it doesn't cycle forever. But there was definitely some sort of weird lag or failure for others to join.
Disregard I suck cocks.
Okay the game was doing great with random aliens not speaking my language. And then suddenly
Spoiler: show
Not that far yet but I assume it can be hand-waved away by saying SAM got enough speech data to start translating for you.
I guess there are translators. It was lazily mentioned in a cutscene.
Hey, my complaint with the whole series is how lip-flaps always match up with "English" when it clearly shouldn't.
I dunno, you've seen what people think when the syncing is off. It'd be pretty jarring to having their mouths moving to one language but their voice speaking another.
People have been fine with everyone in Star Trek (and literally every sci-fi movie and TV series) all having their mouths synced up with English.
None of this is new to the series either. I mean we had a promethean wake up from statis running around speaking english in the trilogy and like 10 different races all speaking english non stop. I mean in the first series did they even acknowledge that the other races had their own languages?
It was actually covered with Javik. Iirc he did a quick mind meld with Shepard as he came out of stasis to learn modern language
It's mentioned in one of the novels and/or lorebooks that everyone has a translator implant that decodes the various languages into a galactic standard, galactic standard being whatever you have your game set to lul. I think that the Angara language barrier was handled pretty poorly though, while SAM could decode their language and make it so we can understand them, there was no reason for them to be able to understand us without "updating their firmware" so to speak, assuming the Angara even have implants which actually wouldn't be very likely since they would have absolutely no need for them considering Andromeda has next to no cross-species interaction due to not having FTL superplotdevices created by billion year old AI dreadnoughts, thus they'd never have to develop a way to communicate with aliens.
Idk, seems like a plot hole.
Not a stretch to think SAM just translates the Initiate members speech through the speakers in their suits or something.
Which would make sense if a certain Angaran representative implies that he just magically understands them. The writing for the entire first contact sequence falls apart entirely after a little while which is a shame because the opening moments are done well. Most of the holes could be explained with better communication to the player through codex entries of dialogue with the Angara. For some indiscernible reason, however, we're left with giving benefit of the doubt and speculating.
This thread discusses the issue with more depth.
Ah, I haven't reached that part yet so I was just spitballing.
I'm just hoping (against hope) that they flesh out a lot of stuff in DLC. A better First Contact experience, when the ark first reaches the Heleus Cluster, would be cool. I'm sure people would complain about not being able to play Ryder in it but I don't think it would necessarily be the worst thing ever to have a DLC centered around a prequel-type story to fill in some blanks.
I guess early game spoilers? Regarding first contact.
Spoiler: show
Caved and got this, put 5 hours in before I even started main story (still havent actually). Am I missing something, or is there only 1 multiplayer game mode? While playing zombies in space is fun and all, a little variety would be great...
