People complaining about the exploits in XIV obviously never played XI.

What? XI never had shit like this that was so widespread. Botting and the like can't even compare. The closest thing we had was the fishing packet manipulation, and I really don't think that caused very much damage. We had that major inflation, but that wasn't a security exploit. That was just SE being moronic with NPC prices.
I played for 6 years but I don't remember anything nearly as bad as whats been going on in xiv with being able to send packets directly to the server unchecked, not only for yourself, but for others around you.People complaining about the exploits in XIV obviously never played XI.
I do remember the POS hackers though, they were always pretty prevalent.
This is the first time I've seen in any SE MMO that another player could directly effect other players in a negative way. One could never steal gil/gear from someone's inventory in XI. This is bad.
I just woke up to this crazy shit happening. I read most of the thread, servers came back up 2 hours ago, are we all safe to logon now? or do we still need to avoid market boards?
You guys must not remember he who musn't be named and the Besieged forced disconnects via /tell. lol
You're safe, look up a couple of posts (mainly Rocl's). I don't think they'd bring things back online again if the issue wasn't addressed (at least in the way it was being done).
I know REDACTED could do some pretty legendary things in XI, but:
A) That was years ago, and one would imagine that security would have advanced by now, especially by a professional company who need only look at its past games to see a need to improve.
B) If he got his hands on this game and was inspired enough, I have no doubt he could make his past accomplishments look like grade-school arts and crafts.
Watch this just be a setup for the real master plan.
Now that they have everyone concerned for their gil and storing them on their retainers, guess what they'll hit next![]()
^ The more things change, the more they stay the same.
No, it been always that the RMT is not the major user for all these hacking tools. Instead, it is all what we thought those "legit" player. If you recalling all those fishing bots, hnm botting and etc, even the pos hack, moogle hack in ff11, all these are used by what we thought they are legit player. If you ever come by some online game, like the RO, maple story and etc, you would even more surprise lol
It wouldn't surprise me if it was just some kid looking to make some quick $$$ stealing gil and selling it to the RMTs.
Was there anything in XI that was as bad as this? Yes I'm aware of PoS hacking/tele-claiming/etc. and IIRC something about using /sit and crafting, but this still seems a hell of a lot worse when you'd expect (pretty sure I shot myself in the foot now) them to learn from XI.
I'm just happy it was taken care of and fixed very fast
HOW DO PEOPLE FORGET THE TAJ STEALING ACCOUNTS SHIT?
Btw, this is still worse imo, but saying fishing bots were the worst ffxi had is just lol.
And ya my money is on this being someone wanting to sell to rmt, rather than rmt.
Fishbotting probably had a more profound effect on the economy than any other thing in XI's history though. I mean to this day you've still got bros at Beaucedine Glacier for days on end generating that Hakuryu gil.
Also wasn't the ease with which Taj pilfered accounts through Friends List Plus (remember that?) a result of the way SE changed your password upon reset?
On phone, so not dealing with multi quotes, but people seem to think there was no incident in 11 where legit players were directly affected ( think even someone said that). Again, the 14 stuff is worse imo, but can't ignore the stolen account shit. But ya I actually don't remember how he was able to do it.
It was something like the passwords generated by SE were directly related to your POL handle or some shit? I can't really remember but it had to deal with ABCD1234 formatting.
