That sounds like what Taj did. He did in /say near a cliff of fishbotters and crashed all their clients, and he did it in Aery as well. Although I only remember there being screenshots. Then he called a GM to report that the bug was possible to them, and how to fix it.

What? In FFXI there was the following:

- Changing peoples bazaar prices
- Glitching peoples relic weapons to make them temporarily unusable
- POL Account passwords generated deterministically, 5k+ accounts stolen overnight due to this
- POS hacks insanely prevalent
- Pull bots insanely prevalent
- Could generate near-infinite gil with shell exploit on Jeuno vendor. This + fish bots ruined the economy for over a year

Japanese devs in general suck at modern tech, this isn't new and it isn't surprising in the least.

What exactly are you confused about to ask "what"? It's known there were major exploits for FFXI, but the ones you listed are questionable or very isolated situations against a specific group. POS hacks also have nothing on these two recent FFXIV exploits. Are you suggesting what you listed is much worse than this? I don't even remember 5k accounts being stolen overnight, source?

I started playing years later, but there was a thread on BG not that long ago (summer) talking about good 'ol FFXI drama.
There's talk in there about Taj locking people's relics (or whatever equipment you happened to wear in your slots) in bazaar and GMs not being able to revert it for awhile and him DCing everyone in the zone (hello Aery & Dominion) and then DCing a GM when he didn't beleive he could do that.

Those are quite different from what has happened here. The first event I'm not sure which you're referring to, but for the bazaar locking, it was a result of certain items, Moogle Pie is one I know of, that were for whatever reason changed to become un-tradable. If someone had the item in their bazaar before the item was made un-tradable, they would be permanently unable to remove it from their bazaar.

In the second situation, a player had disconnected during an event that would have otherwise changed their title, if I recall it was Shinryu, and somehow, they ended up with no title. Checking someone pops up their title in your log so apparently the guy in question would inadvertently crash anyone who checked him, including the GM lol

What's going on here is malicious, though, and its pretty scary :/ Accounts got hacked plenty in XI but nothing like this ever happened.

SE just needs a damn GM to watch shouts for each server. and allow a random GM to get /tell with a real account. Shit should be easy >.< hell I bet one GM could watch a few servers.

I understand the want to make it happen based off chat filters but shit just wont work, you can not account for everything. The damn windower team could not keep up with the chat filters in FF11, I do not trust SE to do any better.

Yeah, just sitting someone at some terminals applying the ban hammer to spammers should be like some intern level shit. Every response you have posted thus far is in defense of something someone has said about XI. If that's not white knighting, I don't know what is. You then finish off every post you make with a one-liner about how X person has a bad argument, and thus should be ignored.
