Many nights after work I wandered into BG Sprots Bar. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but always felt alone as I never felt comfortable wearing my Lions apparel in fear I'd be a pariah to others in fear of their team failing as well. After numerous occasions at this watering hole I took notice of the familiar faces and how they would razz each other nightly.
There was Archi and his numerical wizardry accompanied by an insatiable appetite for cheese.
Rhinox and Tyvern always sharing a bear hug and ask others to join, but most were either afraid or annoyed at Rhinox's angry demeanor but were naturally drawn to Tyvern's happy go lucky charisma.
The manager of the joint Bregor who did his best to keep others in line but would always succumb to the heckling of his beloved browns.
Cail, Cleverness, Moss, and many others that were regulars and always had a go at everyone's team while valiantly defending their own.
As in all establishments there is always that one guy that makes a lot of noise but ends up looking obnoxious and are always defeated in the end, just like his team. I believe they call him Chun, or Liroy, or Leroy. Most just try to ignore him in the end.
I took notice of a brother wearing the honolulu blue and silver with an 81 on his back, and yet no paper back over his head. Could it be? Another Lions fan? Rejoice! Arvin and I would see the man they once called China Doll morph into Stat Padford and then to just Fat Face. But damnit if he doesn't have a super fine woman.
When all seemed fine and dandy one evening, out of nowhere what appeared to be a lady (we'll never know for sure) appeared. It claimed to own our establishment and demanded we change our habits or it would remove us one by one. Many laughed. Some agreed. In the end, there were a few that tested the waters and we all witnessed the powers of this being that must come from the netherworld holds.
Since this occurrence, the BG Sprots Bar just isn't the same. A few patrons come and go, but like a great football game it must eventually come to an end, and it appears that's the direction our favorite hangout is heading. I try to hold onto the good times and relive the nostalgia, but I must face the fact that it will never be the same. I'll miss you football thread...
