I guess, but it still seems pretty weird that someone gets to the point where they clear T9 multiple times and don't know about a change made over 6 months ago that completely altered how to play a job. And then answering confidently with a dinosaur answer.

Then again I could probably say the same about 1-2 people in our own group who play basically one DPS job and nothing else.

idk, that novus isn't really bad...spell speed is pure dps increase on blm, so using it to lessen the det/crit costs isn't that bad. The acc would depend on the rest of their gear...it's kinda hard to make a bad blm novus other than doing skill speed like that other pic, or parry. And last guy is spot on about the piety dps boost.

Raxion, go to youtube and look at personal house that a F2P MMO like SWTOR has done with housing and then you will see that theres no comparison. The prices on that game are way better and the options you have are also 10 times better. And in regards to your comment to joining a FC, since when is it a condition on playing any MMO that you must join a FC or guild to fully experiance the game in regards to housing? I always thought being in a guild or FC was optional...not a requirement to experiance the full aspect of a MMO or I could be wrong.....

After 1 hour of waiting for the 2.38 Patch Note, the 1st thing i looking foward to it was personal housing, but after i look at the price of my world 4m/30m/70m and i remember yoshida mention before the personal housing is much more cheaper than FC housing but now it's about the same pricing. Now i can smell those RMT seller are coming and make a big business.

people been looking forward to the housing since official release... You have delayed it by a year and now not made a new zone for personal housing, but also have made the houses out of reach of the average players as well as they also are in the same zones as FC housing and will also take up any new and upcoming FC housing land spots... Ok, so for personal housing, I am not sure why this is such a big data limiting issue.

Let us make some rough assumptions. Very rough, just to get an idea.

First let us assume they use MySQL.

Using the documents here, we can estimate the data sizes:
MySQL Storage Requirements

Each house will need the following data values, using the largest integer storage of bigint:
House number (8 bytes)
Owner number (8 bytes)
Locked/unlock (tinyint, 1 byte)
House name (Varchar, assume 15 characters max, so 16 bytes)
House description (Varchar, assume 120 characters max, so 121 bytes)

Secondary functions:
Ownership:
Additional owners. A separate table.
House number (8 bytes primary index)
Player Number (Secondary owners) (8 bytes)
Access Level (for varying degrees of editing freedom) (8 bytes)

The total data cost of one house would be approximately 1.158*10^-5 gb.

Ah, you might say, it is not the data storage that is the problem but the time it takes to retrieve it!

In this benchmark tool comparing mysql and mongodb showing the comparison of fetching 5,000 rows out of 10,000,000 rows as being approximately 565 ms with two threads. MongoDB was able to retrieve the same results in approximately 2ms.
Using more cores speeds up this time.
This would be around accessing 12 houses at any given time. (5,000 rows to select, assuming each house would consume about 400 rows)

Add some layer of housing caching on it (only update when someone is editing) this number will get faster and faster.


Am.. I completely wrong or am I missing something?

Because it should only take around 35GB of data which is almost negligible for a database these days with big data being the new CS fad.

If you see any corrections/improvements/etc please let me know. I am trying to think really how much space/power this would take. Not looking for optimizations, since I am trying to estimate worst-case.


As a note: This is not against anyone at SE, the devs, or other, I am just genuinely curious about the database usage.

I was expecting the new relic would be 115 yes, but no change what so ever on the HA?

Not only that, for some classes a 115 weapon with better stats than HA.

What happened to 800k personal housing?

A while back it was stated that they wanted to make personal housing cheaper than Free Company housing. I believe Yoshi-P said that personal housing was supposed to be 850k but they were looking into lowering the cost. Now personal housing costs about as much as a Free Company house; what gives?

I'm not okay because we were promised that personal housing would be at the very least 1/8th the price of FC housing. When FC housing was introduced they said it was outrageous because it was supposed to be split between members. They lied by putting them at the same districts at the same price now. They flat out lied. Considering that we've been waiting for personal housing for over a year and Legacy longer than that, it's not only disappointing it's infuriating to be so flatout lied to. If we were warned they were going to be the same price we would not have gotten out hopes up. With Gold Saucer coming out soon and the only way to raise racing chocobos for the Gold Saucer locked behind personal housing, I'm FURIOUS.

The prices and things as they are, minus the fact that only 2 wards were added, which was addressed already, are fine. It's that everyone expected to be able to afford a medium or large house by themselves, from the sound of it. And I don't think that was ever happening, and you were special if you thought it was.
