It's a boost to make the fight easier after you've wiped to it a few times (not sure the minimum wipes necessary, etc.).

On a few story missions that I failed cause I derped out I got it on the very next try. Was not aware it could stack though.

I don't think it stacks. The only thing you need to do to get it is not zone after failing. Yes, that means your HP needs to be in the same zone as the instance, or you need to get raised (assuming you failed due to dying, and not some other objective failure).

It definitely stacks. SMN50 quest fight
No attempts: 2597 hp
2 wipes: 3116 hp
3 wipes: 3895 hp
4 wipes: 5194 hp

Gonna keep going but fucking christ.

Edit: Seems to stop at 4 wipes, unless the threshold to get more stacks went up.

It also "increases damage dealt", which I didn't test since it was easier to let the WHM npc die so I didn't have to run back to fight location.

Wonder if there's a cap on stacks. I remember seeing it once, but I thought that was scripted to happen during the fight.

Could have saved me time for my 50 DRG quest. Hated having to kite/talon spam.

Seems to stop at 4 wipes / 3 stacks unless you need to wipe more than once more to get more stacks. I'd love to test more but I get endless loading screen for DF every so often and have to close FFXIV so that resets stacks. Still close to double HP and probably as much damage+.

At least you can rightclick it off if you want to do it the legit way.

echo is not my favorite mechanic.

I'll be honest and say I didn't realize such a mechanic was in the game >.> The only class quest I've ever wiped on was the gld30 fight on highbridge as a fresh 30 gld, and that was only once. I don't remember any echo or whatever when I re-attempted it.

Me neither. Guess I've never been bad enough at job quests to run into echo. Thought it was for scripted story fights only.

Seravi already confirmed it stacks, so I'll go ahead and mention that the other thing you mentioned is also false. I failed a class quest, home pointed, teleported back to the area, and received the echo boost.

As far as I remember, it doesn't give any indication that you receive the buff from wiping once. The echo you are referring to is the one at the end of Praetorium I assume where a message pops up and you get that blinding white light that refills HP, etc. I don't think the scripted "echo" boosts anything in particular, it just allows you to damage Ultima and final guy for the sake of story.

I can also confirm that it stacks. I was pretty shitty at learning how to play the game and when I got to the Siren mission/fight, I wiped like crazy. Stacked like 4 to 5 times before I finally won. It might be dependent on the quest/mission as well.

Maybe I'll try it when I do my ACN/THM missions. Might be a bit too low for that range though.

Seems like as long as you don't log out, stack remains. Presumably also going into a different DF server instance.
