Why would having multiple characters make your life easier? I thought you couldn't befriend yourself. I tried the one thing suggested long ago (log out in an instance) and it didn't work.

Because they fixed it in an emergency maint way back after word got around about it.

Can still get around it by having all of your alts in the same FC (or having a friend who's willing to mail stuff for you). Unique stuff (maps) you don't have much choice but using them on the character, outright selling them, getting a friend to help mail, or buying from another character and eating the tax (generally still a net gain).

Main draw of having more characters, imo, is more potential money via anything time-limited. Maps, leves, unspoiled nodes if you're that insane. Even roulette gil isn't that bad. More retainers doesn't hurt either, though you run into an issue sometimes where you don't have enough crap to fill all of them.

I use the FC chest since FC are useless

Yes, but as Ser already pointed out there's a bunch of things you can't move via the FC chest.

There's really no good reason why we shouldn't be able to send items between our own chars.

The "combat RMT" bullshit makes no sense whatsoever, as if the RMT don't already have a dozen accounts to do things on simultaneously already.

They should have put red procs randomly into those Fates just to make us lose our minds trying to figure them out.

The only fail is that there exists people who actually think grinding FATEs at level 50 is good content, or that anybody asked for it.
