Forget the dong, how about those two Ascians in the screenshot just standing there?
(upgrade your damn PC)
It's not even the first Ul'Dong topic.

Sums up that post.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Protect-Spell/
The fail isn't that there's a thread asking about it, that's valid. The fail is that there's another 3 pages or so after a GM specifically mentioned that protect doesn't work arguing that protect works.
All the people going on about how the difference between having Protect and not having it in PvP being "night and day" and not even knowing the actual def/mdef increase just makes it all the more amusing.

damn 2013 bumps!
I think it's better to link the post that bumped it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2345542
I mean, original post in December was kind of lol too but the fact someone is complaining about it in this day and age is funnier than someone complaining about it in December![]()
Looking back at some of these fights, I imagine we'd wipe on Ifrit EX now. Even back at i90 we had issues with over-dps'ing during final nail phase, can't imagine how annoying that would be now with i110.
I just did an Ifrit X to help a friend through. It involves a lot of Manderville now...or it would have, had not the 2 randoms in the party also been virgins to the fight. They were dead on the ground most of the time.
Titan X gets moderately interesting as well, as the gaolers now tend to die at very inconvenient times.
What? Killing the egi on Titan as fast as possible has always been ideal.
Ifrit is much faster since you can skip almost all of the jump/dash sequences, and if you time it exactly right with LB3 (if you have it.. might not!), you can even skip the final Hellfire. The final nails spawn at 20%, so there really isn't a need to slow dps at all just don't keep dots on Ifrit. The only person who has to be aware not to push it is the tank on Ifrit at the time since everyone else is busy with nails.
20% is when he does enrage Hellfire though?
It's definitely lower than that, though I don't have a number to give (10%? 5%?). As the tank, I've always been able to beat on him while Mercy Stroke was active while the DPS handle the last set of nails.
I don't understand what Dammerung is going on about though, I was under the impression that the Ifrit fight was nearly 100% timed with no HP% phases. Are you trying to say that he can only enrage Hellfire while his nails are up, so you can skip the 3rd set of nails by DPSing so fast that they never spawn?
It is both, like turn 8. He has thresholds where you can push him into the nail phases, or if the fight goes on long enough he will just do it for you. There were some situations where both healers would have Wind on them for a couple seconds because of awkward phase push.
3rd nails spawn at 20%, enrage is at 10% but if all the nails are dead you can keep going. He won't jump if he's animation locked by doing howl on someone so you can use the timing here to potentially kill before hellfire with LB3.
Attack patterns are timed, but every nail phase has an hp threshold.
Not quite as bad as Ifrit EX but over the past month I have wiped Thornmarch HM trial as WAR over 10 times before I realized dpsing the king to 65% was trigger for memento.
As WAR I was soloing the king to enrage before 7 other people could kill 4 moogles. Haven't cleared it without 2 stacks of echo in forever.
