Oh God.. one of the best posters here, like everyone has said. This is a terrible thing.
I will say a prayer for you Woozie.
I never knew him personally but saw Sath mention Chapel Hill. I guess he was a neighbor of mine and I didn't even know it (I'm from Raleigh). That's terrible. I would have loved to meet him.
I can't join in others who say requiesce; cat in pace; for you mate I feel it would be more appropriate to say "Here lies one whose name was writ in water." and "Mehr Licht!"
Fare thee well, Woozie. Return to Sagan's star-stuff, for religion's gasp is but a lost mote in our sea of truths.
Gotcha, I understand that completely.. I was initially a physics major at NC State just down the road.
I've listened to that Zi'Tah theme countless times. I never knew it was Woozie, literally one of the people I looked up to the most on BG, with all of our contact in PMs about Calc and Diff Eq back in the day. (I still have those PMs saved, just noticed.)
I'll be honest, I have loved Zi'Tah's music since the first time I stepped in the zone, but it never made me cry like it did last night. And I feel like I should say a second time that I really didn't know him at all, but I've been really affected by how much love there is in this thread. Clearly he was a beautiful person, and I wish I had gotten to know him.
I have never cried at a thread on BG before this, so thank you all for being as heartfelt as you have, it's given me a lot of hope on such a dark day. As ridiculous as it might sound to some outside, I believe that all of us are blessed to have this community in our lives.
I personally didn't know Woozie, but by everyone's account here, it makes me wish I did. His posts and contributions were definitely fascinating and heartwarming to say the least and he certainly seems to bring out the best in people. My condolences to anyone and everyone who knew him.
One of my coworkers grandparents had a heart attack and may die and my response has been "whatever, old people die." and I didn't give a shit, even make fun of her for being too emotional to do her job.
But I'm sitting here reading this thread and I'm truly getting depressed reading about this. I never knew the guy, obviously read his posts, but never could tell you much about him, but I'm sitting here looping his Zi'tah music and tearing up. The loss of such a great mind at such a young age goes against all the natural laws of this world, and that this would happen is just heartbreaking.
This is extremely sad news to hear and I send my deepest condolences to Woozies family and his friends. I am proud to say that I knew Woozie on the forums and had the opportunity to talk to him countless times on subjects of math and science.
Such a shame that he was battling such difficult things in his life.
As others have pointed out, you really didn't even have to know him well to respect him and realize what kind of person he was. I had seen him post a couple of interesting replies to various science/math threads, but my job over the past few months has taken on some pretty intensive studies of physics and space and some of his postings were practically primers for things I needed to figure out or understand. I wish I had known him better; I wish the world had more of him; at the least, I wish it didn't lose so quickly the few people like him that it has.
RIP fellow big poster, I never talked or knew him but he was still a part of this community. I am truly sorry to those who were close and hope you get through this alright.
RIP Woozie. Im a long time lurker, occasional poster... His posts always inspired me to do more overall. Manly tears have been shed.
I'd seen his character running around Cactaur, but never made the connection. I remember his posts here on the forums. Truly a huge loss.
Last night I had a dream about when my family's dog died a few yeas back. So I was already kinda sad when I woke up, then I see this thread and, like many others, make the mistake of playing Zi'tah. I am now a complete mess.
This is a sad sad day not only for us here on the forum but for us as people. Woozie was beyond just a quality poster, he was a quality person, and his posts, especially the back and fourth between him and Miz, were some of if not the best things this forum has ever produced. Any thread you saw his name on from the front page you dove into. He gave some of us a lot more than a few laughs, entertainment and knowledge, but gave us interest, gave us a spark. I can't begin to explain how he could take such alien subjects and clarify them, and not only that, make them appealing and satisfying. I wouldn't doubt that he changed anyone's lives, because at the least he changed our perspectives. I owe some of my path to him and I know others do as well, and for those that were closest, I'm sorry for what was taken from you because I know how great of a deal it is. We all lost something here, even if its something small like a smile or a corrected equation, but some of you lost something great just like our world may have. Thank you Woozie for bringing us what you have and what you continue to bring, and thank you BG for giving us the opportunity to meet someone this magnetic. Rest easy.
Only talked to him a couple times, but he was a wonderful person with a brilliant mind. Sorry to hear he's gone.
My condolences to his family and friends. I did not have the pleasure of speaking with him, but had enjoyed his posts from time to time. Despite not knowing him at all, I can see from this thread that he was not only as intelligent as he came across in his posts, but a great person to be around and speak with.
My advice to those closest to him, try to do something to honor his memory over the next few days. It could be something as simple as reading a post or watching one of his YouTube videos. I found this helped me to get through the losses my family has suffered recently and hope it can help someone else as well.
You are clearly missed, Woozie. To his family and friends, again, my condolences.
Shit. I feel for those closest to him - my roommate went through a similar situation. Sitting at his bedside in the ICU was truly heartbreaking and I couldn't even handle it. I know it must be a hundred times worse for you.
Was listening to The Black Gate Opens on the LOTR soundtrack and it made reading this thread surreal. I don't know if I could do the Zi'Tah even though I did not know Woozie on a close level.
No more fist-clenching when a spiraling thread gets put in its place by Woozie-posts anymore.
What a terrible thing to hear happen, but RIP Woozie.![]()
His story hits really close to home. I always enjoyed reading his posts and could really feel his love of physics through his words. Such a tragic loss.
Man, I don't know what to say. This guy just came off as so humble for how brilliant he was. Really got to the core of me.
