Finished P4 Golden

Romanced every girl possible but ending up making Rise my main waifu. She seemed like the default choice because of how flirty she was and what can I say I’m a simple man. I actually enjoyed Yukiko better though. Her goofy laugh and random times when she got super serious amused me greatly. Kinda felt bad for Naoto and Chie when I ditched them on Valentine’s Day

Best character was by far Nanako, Nanako must always be protected. Teddie was the worst.

The only social links I didn’t max were the young mother and Saki’s brother. I didn’t even know Saki’s brother was a social link until near the end of the game because he didn’t have a big red ! above him so I didn’t have time to finish. Maybe I’ll get them on NG+ but I gotta finish other games like FFXVI before I give it another go.

It’s definitely a 15 year old game and I feel that looking at it through the 2023 lense but I was still very entertained

Can't remember if they still have Never More as the ending theme, but it was great.

Kanji has one of the most hilarious story modes of P4 Arena.

Kinda stretching out my P5 gameplay, abusing the fact that you can skip too weak battles by power leveling all my Personas until they can't learn any more skills. So far I have 135 Personas capped that way, whenever they're done I just bring them to the Velvet Room and use the weaker ones to boost the strong ones, itemize one to restore the gallows, and repeat. Just beat the Reaper, too.

It’s really easy to get OP in P5R, especially if you use the DLC Personas. Just spamming Myriad Truths on everything.

Beat it, Platinum trophy. Nothing to do but try and finish the Thieves Den, but also wow, what an ending. Just really touching and heartfelt.

I found the Jose fight already and beat him, you can fight him as soon as you reach the bottom/top of Mementos in the extra semester.

I found my vita so I actually need to actually complete p4 golden. I think I stopped because I got to the p4 ending which felt great. I know p4g revolves around marie so maybe thats why i didnt feel the desire to keep pushing.

finally getting into Persona 5 (maybe? I've tried a few times...) and just curious if anyone has beginner's advice? I could google that yeah but I wanted to see personal thoughts from y'all who have played. I'm not trying to min-max anything or get all the links done or any of that, but if there are certain things I should know about ahead of time before I screw myself I'd love to be aware of it.

You playing P5 or P5 Royal? That's important to distinguish.

Otherwise, the best advice I can give you is just have fun! Do what you want to do on the days you want to do it. If you like one character more than another, hang out with them!

Waifu whoever you want, or if you don't just befriend people!

I didn't follow any guides, or look anything up on my first play through. I still had a blast. I missed out on stuff for sure, but tons of progress carries over on NG+, so if you then want to min max, you can.

Depending on which version you have, I can give you a bit more. If it's p5r there's a couple confidants that affect the ending. So those are important to know, and I think someone asked a page or two ago.

One thing I will say, is that for either version, try to make as much progress in the castles as you can in one go. In P5R, I try to do the entire thing in a day, which is easier in that version due to QoL. In p5 you can usually do it in 2 trips (excluding mandatory events/skips). This way you can maximize your time with confidants/activities.

Only thing I'll suggest is don't waste any time when you're not forced to sleep or do something. Whether it's studying, working, or hanging out with someone, don't waste any time.

okay so for p5r top confidants:

Hifumi (shogi player)
Mishima (annoying classmate)
Maruki (counselor)
Kawakami (teacher)
Takemi (doctor)

Some of your party members are better than others, like I would max Ryuji and Kasumi, but the latter is gated behind events.

In p5r there's a hidden 3rd semester, you unlock it by having certain requirements in confidants.

As long as Maruki reaches rank 9 you'll unlock the 3rd semester. To get the true ending, you'll want to max Maruki, Kasumi and Akechi.

Akechi needs to be raised to Rank 8 by November 17, while Kasumi needs to be raised to Rank 5 by December 22. (to see the true ending)

Other than that, like Melena said, always do something to increase a stat. Even on days you can't go out, you can still do something at home. Read a book, or clean or something. p5r made it a bit easier

Just have fun! Once it gets going, it's hard to stop. Some palaces are better than others though.

The teacher should be maxed asap since her rank 10 bonus is a huuuuuuuge quality of life upgrade.

Also as you might expect the teacher and school counselor will be unavailable during the summer vacation months so don’t slack on them, there’s a whole month plus they are unavailable to rank up.

Always have a book on you because sometimes you’ll get a seat on the subway train and get free time to read.

Every Sunday in the subway station juice shop they sell a juice that costs 5k and it will increase one social stat a little and it doesn’t take up any time, so don’t miss it.

Always always make sure you have a Persona of the matching arcana when you hang out with your social links. You’ll get bonus points for every response and it will make ranking them up go faster. Up to you if you want to look up a guide for best choices to rank up fastest or if you just wanna go with your gut. I do highly recommend a guide however for the twins social link since that one is not dialogue based but instead they will ask you to fuse personas with specific abilities and you’ll definitely want a persona fusion guide for that. If you look one up online make sure you specify the guide for the Royal version because their requirements are different in the base game.

If you have the DLC Personas I urge you not to use them in your first playthrough. They are incredibly OP.

ty to both of you for all the tips, knowing how to unlock the bonus dungeon is super important because I do not have the time to play this game twice.

what difficulty did y'all play on? I had it on Merciless but switched to Normal. will switch back to Merciless but I haven't yet figured out how to efficiently grind, restore SP, etc. so I'd rather get my bearings on Normal first. Normal is piss-easy which is perfect until I learn the game's systems
