Merciless is def too much if you're not familiar with how to exploit weaknesses. I originally played both on normal and then hard. I don't mind a challenge, but just ramping difficulty up with stat bloat is my least favorite way to play.

Honestly, normal will provide you with enough of a challenge later on. Still easy, but not I could do this blindfolded easy

I've played a few Megaten games in my time so I'm thinking Merciless will be fine for me. mostly it's the SP tegen I'm worried about. Royal does come with SP regen necklaces but they're 10 SP per turn and OP AF and I feel cheap using them lol

Make sure you are checking the vending machines in town for SP items, they restock once per week. The one by the laundromat/bath house is the first one you have access to but there are more in the city.

If you play your cards right by the third or fourth dungeon, SP items will be pretty trivial. Get Sojura’s confidant rank up enough that he teaches you how to make coffee (or curry if you want) and you can spend your evening time making those. If you get the teacher’s confidant rank up high enough, you can pay her to make coffee or curry for you instead to keep your evenings free.

The difficulty will ramp up around the third palace as you’ll start encountering enemies that don’t have any elemental weakness and you’ll have to start using stat debuffs to trigger weakness. Like, if you use wind on an enemy with burn they get knocked down. Phys attack on a frozen enemy. Psychic damage on a confused enemy, etc. So you’ll want to make sure you have Persona abilities that can inflict status effects.

ty for the info. technical knockdowns... that is new AFAIK. great addition really, gives status effects more of a purpose and enables more interactions with weakness-neutral enemies

The last time I played this was for PSP when it launched. NOTHING in this trailer rings a bell, which will be nice because I can essentially go in knowing next to zilch.

Also, I fully expect Atlus to release a "royal" or "gold" edition about a year later for the FES content, but I'll still probably pick this up day 1.

Kinda deciding if I want to drop $70 on this on release or wait a while for sale. P5 Royal went on sale within a couple months and P5 Strikers & P5 Tactica went on sale almost immediately.

I ordered it. I know pre=ordering is the devil, etc. But it's on Amazon because Gamestop has made the shopping experience so miserable fuck them.

I am sure we are going to get some sort of definitive edition in the future because we always do, but $70 for idk, probably 100ish hours hours of entertainment, that's worth it to me. I'm not one of those people that always equates $ to time but in some cases like this I don't take umbrage with it.

It'll also keep me occupied until FF7R2 comes out at the end of the month.

There's day 1 DLC of course with costumes and crap, but I never buy that.
