Based on where you are in California, kWh's are tiered based on season for the whole month. Right now its:

    0-557 kWh = $0.16
    558 - 2,228 kWh = $0.25
    2229 and above = $0.31

So uh...is it really this easy to start mining? I copied the pool address to my bat file, loaded it up after adding my wallet address, and now I'm at 26.34 Mh/s. Am I missing something? This turned out to be super simple...

Do you have a specific wallet or pool you'd suggest for mining ethereum? And any other advice is greatly appreciated!
My Ether Wallet is the best secure client-side option, IMO:

Ethermine is one of the most popular pools. Has a great pay-out system, low downtime, low fees, and is easy enough to configure:

Depends what you define is worth your time. Most modern GPUs can make at least a couple $ per day at current prices, but is that worth the time/effort/noise/heat for you?

I think you might've mistyped somewhere.... I don't have the figures for a 970/270x off hand & am short on time right now to calculate it, but I do know at today's stats a single 1070 will make $6/day profit at 15.0 cents per kWh.

1080ti will make $9/day at current prices & network stats, so yeah I'd say go for it.

Nemosminer and Awesome Miner are both great for profit switching. Configure either one, let them benchmark your system, and point it at the MiningPoolHub pool for best results. The software will mine the most profitable coin for your hardware (based on the benchmark results), distribute the rewards to the pool, and the pool will then pay you in whichever coin you choose.

Nicehash is an option for those with little tech experience/patience/desire to tweak or maximize things, as it's the only software with a decently developed GUI. It'll do the same as the above, but the fees are higher and they only pay out in BTC. They also managed to get hacked and lose a bunch of money that was stored in their web wallets (which of course, is the only way to avoid fees). I'd advise paying out to an external wallet, for that reason.

Claymore is my personal favorite, for overall reliability and consistent performance. This of course limits you to only mining ETH + a secondary coin (SIA for me), but I'm OK with that. This means I don't make as much as the profit switching software, by as much as 10-30% depending, but my overall experience and up-time is much better with Claymore. Running Claymore, I could honestly go a week without checking on my miners and things will probably be fine. Running one of the profit switchers, I have to check far more often due to more hangs/crashes/other issues. There are scripts and tools available to counteract that but I never went the extra mile to do it, so I've just been content with Claymore.

    Basically, yes.

Verify your reported hash-rate is hitting the pool, configure your minimum payout level to something reasonable (1 full ETH would take you months at 26MH/s), and otherwise that's about it.

If you want to take it to the next level, you can start tweaking your core/memory clock and power usage for a boost in your hash-rate and a reduction in power consumption. All of my 1070s are at +50-200 core clock and +500-900 memory clock, and 55-80% power. This increased my hash-rate from ~25 to 31 MH/s, and reduced my power usage by 50-70 watts per card. Every card has a different 'sweet spot' for these settings.

Then, the next level is configuring other options within the miner software to restart if things hang, or your hash-rate drops, etc. Or setting up remote monitoring through an app or website, and/or then remote management through something like Teamviewer.

Rkenshin, or anyone whos mining, did you set your dpool and epool at all? I'm currently mining successfully for eth and I'm waiting to see if siacoin is mining properly once the site updates with my info. Wish I started this ages ago; even with only one 1070 I'm making just over $3.50, not including the siacoins I make on the side that will hopefully blow up one day lol. I'm done for the night but I think I can tweak my GPU and power settings more to maybe squeeze $3.75-$4. I should have just put my coin money into a second video card and mined from the get go.

While mining is a bit more 'safe' than actual investing - since the hardware will always be worth something - the same general rule of investing applies here: don't spend money you're not willing and able to lose.

    Big-time nono.

Not only do exchanges typically discourage and warn against it, but it's also less safe/secure.

As in, the back-up pools? Yes, absolutely worth doing.

If there's ever an issue or a connection problem with your primary pool, having back-up pools configured will make sure you keep earning crypto. I've come home to see my client had switched pools as many as 14 times in a single day, which would've taken a chunk out of my day's profits otherwise.

Wait when did this ban happen? Last I heard they were working on how to tax it not ban it.
