How do I handle feeding at night? I put her in her crate last night and she was fine. I laid down beside her for a hour and slowly moved further and further away from her. After about 4 hour finally made my way into bed and she cryed for like 15 secs but quite after that out. Woke me up crying about a hour later crying so took her out, she pissed, then came in and ran to the food water area wanting food. She wouldn't stop crying when I put her back in her pin ended up having to put in her and the pin in another room for the last 3 hours of the night. Do I feed her? My understanding was take them out every 3 hours potty, strait back in crate so they know night time is sleepy time not play or food time (to keep them from waking u up just to eat or play)

How many times are you feeding her a day at the moment? I wouldn't feed her. If Shepards are anything like labs they will eat an entire bag of food if you let them. If she whines when she's back in her crate you basically have to ignore her until she goes back to sleep.

Put his crate in your bedroom if the dog keeps crying at night.

Feeding her 4 times a day.

She was with us and doing fine... it was when she wanted to eat and I wouldn't let her and put her in her pin that the whining started

LOL. Took her to pet smart for this big training simminar type thing. She was scared to death at first but ended up fairly well... sat in a corner most of the time but was being social to people and wanted to play with the other gsd dogs there, but she was to scared lol (she was intrested in them but didn't wanna be to close to them)

Aylee where did you get her from? For a puppy to be this timid is really surprising.

Found a listing for them on oodle and craigslist for someone selling them in a city about 45 min away from me. Is it a bad thing that she was timid? Also she is really bad about chewing on stuff... i've bought her a rope, squeeky toy, water bottle cover thing, nylon bones, and those rubber things u put peanut butter in, although she likes shoes/covers/cloths hangers better.

Also with potty training let me make sure I am doing it right. Take her out every 30-45 minutes give her a treat/praise if she does anything. If she has an accident take her out of the room and clean it up without her seeing me. Thats all I do right? No punishment or anything correct?

Full story now that my pc is hooked back up:
When we first walked in I was holding her and could feel her heart racing so I took her outside and let her calm down. While I was letting her walk around outside (trying to make her shit, so she didn't shit on me while holding her) GF went to the car to get her a towel for her. While she was gone a lady brought her GSD out and talked to us about the training and the puppy freaked the fuck out, but finally calmed down and stopped crying when my GF got back. After that went back inside and she was a lot calmer and watched all the other dogs performing tricks and stuff. I sat her down and she just backed up into the cornor and sat/laid there. She let others pet her and even licked treats (although didn't eat any they gave her, but did try to eat one I gave her). Went back outside to let her potty and two girls came out with their GSD (one was playing fetch with it and the other was playing with my puppy). She loved the girl that was talking and petting her... ran over to her and was jumping on her wagging her tell. She walked over to the other two playing fetch but was a little hesitant to get close to the other dog, and if it came close she would back away a bit.

The only time you can punish a dog/puppy is if you catch them in the act. All you do is scold them. Don't swat them, don't push their face in the mess, etc. If you punish them after the fact they don't understand what they did wrong. Chewing problems are natural for puppies. Don't sweat it. It comes with the territory. Being timid isn't bad it just raises warning bells. If the dog is super skittish and shies away from people or other dogs she might have been abused. A lot of abused dogs will cower noticeably if you reach out and try to pet them on the head with no warning. The fact that she's really shying away from contact as badly as you're saying really concerns me quite a bit.

As to bathroom time what you're doing is fine. Always praise when she pees or poops. But don't always give her a treat. If you do that every time she will expect it every time. Mix it up. Throw in 10 - 15 seconds of excited verbal praise and petting.

Hopefully she's just taking a bit more time to adjust.

Also she knows it's good to potty outside, but don't think she understands it's wrong to go inside. How do I teach her to hold it until I take her out? (A 12 week should be able to hold it for 2 hours... she starts making me nervous around 45 minutes lol. Also how do I keep her from chewing on things she shouldent?

Dogs cant tell from wrong or right. If she cant hold it for 2hr just take her out every hour and she will get the hang of it eventually. Dogs are creatures of habit soon she will prefer going out in her spot instead of inside. Just takes consistency.
My 8wk old now goes out to the garden by himself most of the time.

One of the ways that worked for me in potty training was after they eat put in crate for 30 mins then take out side. And take them out right after you get done playing with them. Praise and treat when they go.
