Problem with that would be not being able to use Unique/Untradable gear including stuff like seasonal event rewards (lightning gear, etc)

So I'm sure SE will do it.

The whole inventory system is incredibly stupid for seasonal and vanity gear. It should be like the minion system, where you use the item and it's added to the list of vanity gear you can have displayed on your character instead of your real gear. Then you can wear your clown pieced AF2/Coil/whatever gear and still look like Lightning, or a ghost, or whatever.

Lets see which makes SE more money:

    A) Player burns through 2.1 content in 2 and a half months, then quits, paying for 3 months total.
    B) Player is pissed at every end-game event having gear lockouts and quits prior to 2.1, paying for 1 month total.
So in a world where 2.1 content is completely ungated, it takes 2.5 months to burn through the content? Did you accidentally type "months" when you meant "weeks"? If CT allowed only 3 drops per week, you could have all 5 pieces (head/body/hands/legs/feet) for all 6 sets (fending/maiming/striking/aiming/casting/healing) in 10 weeks.

In a world where SE does not gate ARR content, it would take about 1 week to exhaust 2.1. Because you'd already have full i90 for the rest of your jobs before 2.1 came out.

2.1 consists of CT, Coil, and PVP. If you think the average end-gamer is going to max out every bit of CT, coil and PVP gear in 2 and a half weeks, you're even more of an idiot than we know you to be. If you want infer that some 2% of the population will play 100 hours a week, running events non-stop until they have every slice of gear, why not just come out and say so instead of leaving such an open-ended and statement to get dissected by the rest of BG?

Also, if you want to go and take a time-machine and alter the past to change ARR to a lockout-free system, why not do one better and alter the past so that XI stood a chance against WoW in terms of sales and subs?

probably asked already but what if no one needs or greeds and item, it will just go to a random person. Would that take up the 1 loot per week or would everyone actually have to pass it to the floor to avoid using their 1 use? If it doesn't take up the use it should be easy enough to circumvent the system to get more than 1 drop you want per week.

we don't know, i'm pretty sure they haven't said either

i have to imagine it'll floor before going to someone who didn't need or greed or else their lockout system is worthless

Yeah, I know I wouldn't have CT blitzed in 2 weeks. Given my general distaste for spamming dungeons, I'd be lucky to do it 2-3 times a week, and especially if it takes an hour or more to do before factoring DPS queues. Enter the RNG where those runs hold no guarantee I'd get a drop with items on the Greed end still having competition from 7 others. I know I haven't shaved in a couple weeks, but I'm not that level of neckbeard.

Do you think the "average end-gamer" is going to want every piece of gear for every set?
Do you think the "average end-gamer" is going to collect multiple complete sets of i80 CT gear when he already has a full set of ungated i90s?

Is there some argument you're making against ungating content that somehow doesn't apply to mythology or coil right now?

Same. I'm going to use a cat analogy because I'm a cat person.

My cats get pissed off when doors are closed around the house. If you open the door for them they won't necessarily go in. They just want the option.

I don't want to max out in like 2 weeks, though I know it would certainly be possible. On the flip side I don't like being forced to 1 drop a week either. Freedom > Restriction.

So you're essentially arguing for the 2% of hardcores? Why? Lol. WHAT are you even arguing for or about? Where is your stance?

It doesn't take a hardcore to want to do CT more than once a week. It certainly takes a hardcore to have all of CT's loot farmed in 2 and a half weeks.

Wait. Why the fuck am I wasting time with you? Jesus. Never fucking mind. Its SD.

Found the post that talked about vanity a bit on OF: Vanity Update

"I believe that the vanity slots that we are planning for patch 2.2 will come close to addressing this request. We do not have any plans to make it so you can completely separate the setting of cosmetic gear and gear with stats.
*The difficulty is, as this would increase the amount of information transferred for each character, we'd see additional stress on the server."

To me that says you will have to apply the design of one piece of gear on another so the game only reads one piece of equipment instead of having to read Piece A > Apply Stats > Piece B > Apply Design. But I have no clue how that works as far as memory consumption goes so I could be completely off base.

Wouldn't that just require an exponential amount of information in the database to go through? Let's take one piece of gear. Now they need entries for that one piece of gear with the looks of all other gear in the game.

How would they even try to keep up with this over time? Seems simpler to just send a few more bits of data. PS3 limitations

I'll be bored of 2.1 in 2 weeks max, 4 weeks if PVP is really good. Once I'm bored I will stop playing completely. So what you said has no point.

Again, I don't actually know how this works but I think the issue comes from having to display the second piece of equipment in the equip menu. Having to pull the data for Equip Icon/Equip Stats/etc. every time would put needless stress on the server when you could just add a few extra bits of info to the single piece of equipment that replaces "Display Model A" with "Display Model B" instead. I imagine they already have a database of armor they could pull from considering that would be how the game decides which model to display to begin with like in the case of .dat swapping in XI where you could swap the model for the armor around w/o actually changing the stats.

Are you in favor of the current gates that exist on coil and myth? Because without those, the vast majority of 2.1 gear is obsolete on release.

Supposing that you DO agree that gates on BiS serve a purpose, the point of CT gear would then be to fill in the gaps for where you currently have i70 (due to i90 gates). The "average end-gamer" does not play every job. If you are hardcore enough to collect 4+ full sets of CT gear (to go with the 1+ set of i90 you already have), you're probably also hardcore enough to spam CT non-stop until you get them.

For everyone else, CT's content only lasts long enough to fill in the slots they are missing for the jobs they are playing. So how many other jobs (besides the main i90 job) are they playing? If they are playing 2 secondary jobs, 5 slots x 2 jobs / 1 lot per week = 10 weeks (i.e. 2.5 months) to get everything they want from CT. Hmmm.

If I'm being honest? No. The fact CT wasn't ready is what's contributing to its potential launch obsolescence, not how people could've geared up beforehand. So, while people out there would likely try to "skip a step" or two, if CT also gave out myth tomes, there'd be a bit of two birds/one stone thing going on where I could enjoy a leveled job at whim while not sacrificing another. And if totally skipping tiers is something SE deems unacceptable, then that's more an issue of their actual content difficulty.

Any further commentary will just involve me being snarky about what they're doing with our money and not feeling like we're getting a premium product.

You're right, but that's exactly why it sounds like SE would do it: because its needlessly overcomplicated. My proof? See crafting in 1.0. Menus for days, as if they couldn't actually discover a way to simplify the crafting process while still requiring imput on the part of the character.

You can't create content faster then the people will consume it, and artificial gates, to extend it, is a denial of the reality. FF14 is better off, in this degree, because they have the multi-class system, yet they fucked it up by gating things. If you're dedicated enough to gear up all of your jobs, then you're likely dedicated to do it again when the next content rolls out, and 2.5 months isn't that long to wait as you're not going to get all of that gear that incredibly fast. If you're not that dedicated, you're likely to not have all of the gear you wanted so who cares if it's un-gated?

CT's 1-item-per-week situation would make sense if drops were logically tokenized, equating it with WoW's Raid Finder tool as far as I know from cursory reading/hearsay (I only played WoW through TBC), or if there were some indication, any indication really, of consideration given to various situations that could dick people out of loot no matter how many times they run CT in a week (situations like people being complete assholes through DF preventing completion, lots of potential for wasted loot, etc.) From what limited information has been parceled out, it's extraordinarily easy to see a worst-case scenario.

It would be really nice for the playerbase if I couldn't easily imagine a platoon of lawyers standing next to the cameras every time Yoshida & co. do a live producer's letter or vetting every dev post longer than two sentences, not to mention the translation issues. The devs could very well be as tone-deaf as they appear to be, but I can't imagine the bureaucracy and communication barriers help at all.

The situation doesn't really affect me personally. I think there's a fuckton of hyperbole going around, but I can sympathize with some people's perspectives.
