People have no comprehension of how hard it is to design a costume for those movies. It's not for lack of trying that's for sure and you can't just translate the costumes they wear in comics to screen. Yeah they could use CGI but than you all seen what happen in Green Lantern.

So you have to choose between a design that looks fucking stupid as all hell but is faithful to the comic origins or a design that looks fucking stupid as all hell and has nothing to do with the comics.

Nah. With today's technology there is no excuse for a big movie company to not have great costume design.

Amazing cosplay designers around the globe.

Are you even serious? I can give you hundreds of examples where costumes from abstract works have translated better than this abortion. You don't honestly think that the actor is walking around with those wings, do you? That's clearly CGI.

What...the fuck? That shit looks retarded as fuck. If those wings were the ones they used in the movie there'd be a bigger outcry than what were seeing for the latest Batman v Superman trailer. JFC dude are you on that crack cocaine or something?

I want to inflict gun violence on the person that made that video.

From the guy who made it:

"I've put so much emotions and, you know, a part of my soul in this (money and time are not considered)."

I didn't say they were movie quality good, I said that they are better designed that the Fox version. At least the wings in the video look like fucking wings and not metal pipes with whatever they are trying to pass off as pinions. If some random Russian dude can make those, you can't tell me Fox is unable to make something that looks half decent.

This movie is going to suck ass anyway and the last thing we'll all be critiquing after this thing detonates in the box office are stylized wings.

The wings *aren't that bad* when compared to all the other problems this movie has.

Sad that Patrick Stewart is probably gonna die before a proper X-men movie is made . Can't think of anybody else to play the Prof.

I am probably the only one here who's hoping that Deadpool tanks. That way FOX will be cornered into selling rights to "Mutants" to Disney. I mean seriously, this studio feud is cramping up the entire feel of what Marvel characters could have really been.

As much as I want FOX to be forced to hand back the rights to alot of the properties they've skullfucked (sup X-Men) I really want to see Ryan Reynolds nail it as Deadpool. He's wanted this. We've wanted this and it's his chance to make up for Green Lantern a la Batfleck.

This movie can bomb for all I care, X-Men is a giant pile of cinematic fail at this rate but leave Deadpool alone!

Believe me, I am really for Deadpool being the bestest movie ever. Problem is, fucking FOX is gonna ride the coattails into the ground.

Well obviously wings are CGI. What I meant is that once you're making a practical costume for a movie it's a whole another story than cosplay. These costumes have to somewhat hold up to the movement of people in them and that also requires some consideration on part of the designer. You say you have hundreds of examples but really only example of a slick looking costume that translated well is that Man of Steel costume. As much as I love Flash and Arrow their costumes look kind of wonky, even Batman costume in Nolan movies is nothing like his costume in the comics.

I think we're talking about two different things here. Design and performance are not the same. Realism of superhero costume is fairly new thing. We can thank Nolan for that. For the most part costumes were almost literal interpretation of their comic book counterparts. Take old Fantastic Four for example and compare it to more recent ones. The 1980s Thing is way better looking and close to the concept than Chiklis one.

All I'm saying is, those do not look like wings at all. They did better wing design for a dove in Mars Attack and that was in 1996.

No idea what superhero movies you guys been watching for the last ten years or so, but most of them have been pretty good adaptions to their animated counterpart. At least as a fan of the 90's cartoons. Archangel and Apocalypse suck ass because someone wanted to be a fairy and get all artistic and shit with their interpretations.

There are so many different versions of Archangel's metal wings in various books and mini series; it's like they purposely avoided all of them in order to justify their costume designer position. Most likely it was some executive walked on, pointed, and decision was made ala Wild Wild West mechanical spider redux. Not surprised though, LolFox, etc, movie will still make a billion dollars.
