I'm convinced we're revising BG history for the sake of justifying Singer's later movies. I'm pretty sure X1 was fucking terrible.

X1 was very good for the time it was released. its still ok, but superhero movies have gotten much bigger. but for the time of its release it was fantastic

The way I describe him the most, the best, is he to me is the God of the Old Testament and all that comes with that. If there isn’t the order and the worship then I’ll open up the Earth and swallow you whole, and that was the God of the Old Testament. I started from there and when Oscar and I met we began discussing -- since he isn’t really God, he’s the first mutant perhaps, but he’s not God necessarily -- he’s imbued with certain unique powers. Some of them may or may not be from this Earth, we don’t know.

This right here. Seeing Wolverine heal from those face wounds and Cyclops and Storm doing their thing on the big screen was amazing when it first happened because we'd never seen anything like it before.

Movies are reviewed on their own merits, not by comparing them to other films within the same genre. The first X-men movie was bittersweet for me. I was glad to see characters I had been reading about since the age of 8 on the big screen, but I thought the story was pretty lame and the excuse was made at the time that "movies are different that's just how it is." The reality is that where the comics developed the characters and their relationships well between moments of action, the movies were about awe inspiring scenes of mutant power devastation at a steady pace with little character development.

I still think it was a good movie. I watch it if I catch it on tv. It's certainly nowhere even close to how bad they were back than and even the newer ones like Green Lantern are.

The only thing good about the GL movie is that it didn't end up successful, allowing Ryan a clean slate to play Deadpool now. And make horrible riff jokes about playing Green Lantern in Deadpool.

And frankly, I think Deadpool is going to do for R-rated superhero movies what X-men did for the current state of the genre. But we wouldn't be here without Singer's first work pulling Marvel IP's out of the manure pile of Fantastic Four and the like. For that, I'll always be thankful for the Fox movies, even if I think Disney/Marvel is doing a more even job in producing the "universe".

I enjoyed GL for what it was, they just tried to blow their load in one big movie and making Hal "savior" lantern.
