Until 2000s, she was always background character. Occasionally springing up here and there along with Magneto and The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. She was never the "leader" of X-Men before then. After 2000s I stopped reading X-Books so I wouldn't know.

Always laughed at the fact that the Professor never even looked twice at original trilogy Mystique. Then all of a sudden in DoFP Patrick Stewart is all "we grew up together she was my bff because First Class". One can argue that she's w/Magneto in his brotherhood, but that's because she's a fucking villain and should've stayed that way. I'm wondering what fucking purpose she'll serve in the fight against Apocalypse? Your gymnast kick flips won't do shit, JLaw. Go away.

What's sad is Cyke should be the X-men equivalent of Captain America when it comes to leadership and tactics... but the movies never touch on that :/
