Too bad she was in the prequels or else they could have cast her as jean grey
actually, I wonder how damaging that would be if they just swapped characters like that and if there would ever be a chance of it being worth while
I get that she's big, and I actually liked her in Silver Linings Playbook and Hunger Games. She's very good in drama films. But a good actor or actress, even one that I like, wouldn't automatically sell something to me. It has to depend on the role. A good role with a big name is great. A shitty role with a big name? Rarely, an actor can save a role, sometimes, even a film. But she hasn't, and doesn't give a "I can't see anybody else playing this role" vibe.
It's not even so much that I mind her for her. My biggest gripe is that as long as she continues to be the lead, the characters with more potential will always be playing second fiddle. First Class' portrayal of the Xavier and Magneto dynamics was good, but only because the film spent time on them, rather than stick Mystique everywhere. There's really not much to work with using Mystique. Or at least not that they've shown.
But that's just me, and at the end of the day, $$$ will speak the loudest. Oh well.
Her and the Mystique character are the single most annoying fucking thing about these movies. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a flat out fucking liar.
Honestly, BG'a bitching about her is probably the most annoying thing about these movies.
She has been plenty meh in them, but my god you people act like she set your dog on fire.
I don't get her appeal, hardly the same as bashing.
I love JLaw so please dont get it twisted. I just hate these movies and making magneto a henchman and mystique the team leader are what have me like LOL
With all of this JLaw hate, what's everyone's thoughts on Wolverine being involved yet again. I get it that Hugh Jackman is a big star, and that Wolverine is a major character. But personally I am sick of things revolving around him. Granted, this seems more like a cameo. But still.
But things often do revolve around him, as is in the comics. Not only that, but he plays the character wonderfully, and doesn't leave the question of "Why is JLaw out of costume for a character who is supposed to be all pro-mutant and proud of who she is?". The character she plays just doesn't make sense within the narrative the majority of the time, and it's not like I'm gonna blame Mystique for that.
Was Mystique ever depicted as a talented leader in the comics? I know this is an AU and all, but it seemed fucking weird to make what is a treacherous villain the moral backbone of the original team.
I'm normally pretty good at telling myself "This is an alternate world so your comic and cartoon knowledge doesn't count" but it didn't stick for First Class. I can't get over Mystique being not only a good guy, but the goodest guy.
I'm not mad about it or anything, just confused as to why they didn't just make her Jean Grey in the first place. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Edit: Was First Class not technically a reboot at the time they made it, just a quasi-prequel? If they didn't expect it to do gangbusters it'd settle a lot of my curiosity why they didn't just use the actual X-Men first class for First Class.
Goodest guy? I think she sticks around as Charles love interest. He gets taken by Apocalypse, she rallies the team together, and leads them because no one else will. In this universe, she is one of the older members. So while Scott or Jean would typically have leadership roles, their just kids atm. Also Hank has been nothing but a lackey in these films. I see Havoc is back, but we don't know anything about him now. Raven as a lead, from what we have seen, is not a very good one. She seems to be treating them more guerilla fighters than a team that works together.
idk fam I think Olivia Munn getting oiled up to fit into skin tight latex to be all the ahem "star" power needed to drive the film
