To be honest, I never really expect much from the xmen movies because they've all been pretty meh for the most part.

I'd probably just assume Singer and the studio are to blame. It seems kind of stuck in the time period the series spawned in. We've seen superhero movies progress into legitimately good movies, not just effect heavy spectacles.

One of the reviews echoes this, that the overall tone/feel of the series has stayed exactly the same since inception.

To be fair, in Bryan Singer’s original X-Men, this was an interesting element, one that obviously had deeper meaning. But here we are, 16 years later, and everyone involved is still sad. It feels repetitive. I’m just starting to think these folks will never be happy.

Did realize reviews were hitting already. That's pretty early. Read a few. I usually make up my own mind on movies, but I was thinking of staying away from this one as it was. Guess that settles it.

The more I read, the more it sounds like this movie is just a way to introduce the new ensemble. That an apocalypse is just a run of the mil bad guy who wants to rebuild the world but never explains "why"

Won't happen; JLaw and Wolverine will ensure it makes a make a tonne of money even phoning it in. A man can dream though, right? Spiderman/Wolverine, XMen v Avengers...

Maybe if it makes a slightly disappointing box office they'll sell Fantastic Four back. Dr Doom and Galactus would be the strong villains the MCU has lacked. Ooh, and Reed Richards plus Tony Stank plus Black Bolt if they get that Inhumans thing off the ground plus Black Panther plus Dr Strange equals the Illuminati. World War Hulk.
