They really neutered Apocalypse. Waste of a good actor and villain. His voice changes constantly and sounds as awful as it does in the recent trailers. He only grows in his "psychic battle" with the Professor. A bigger Apoc with a deep, intimidating voice would've made him seem so much more threatening. Even the way he's awakened felt really half-assed. There's even a part where a merchant, who was chasing Storm, pulls a knife on a hooded Apocalypse in Egypt. I'm sorry, but even with a hood on, I'd shit my pants at a giant 8 ft Apocalypse (from comic or cartoon) coming at me. The last thing I'd think to do is pull a knife on him...
Mystique, surprisingly, isn't as annoying in this as she was in DoFP. There's so many mutants in this that she doesn't hog up a lot of screen time.
Cyclops got a lot of screen time, which made me happy. As did Jean. Sophie Turner wasn't terrible outside GoT like Emilia Clarke was. Kodi Smit-McPhee's Nightcrawler was good as well. I also enjoyed Alexandra Shipp's Storm, who for plot reasons was conveniently in Egypt already. Olivia Munn's Psylocke was OK. Mostly there to swing her sword around and didn't have many lines. Just glad to finally see the character on screen, and not a background character this time. Jubilee was just there. I have a feeling she'll be featured more in deleted scenes from the young X-Men out and about. (Record store and mall trip which was cut.)
Of course, Quicksilver's scene was awesome. Just a little corny in some parts, which shows Singer knows everyone expects this to be a fun scene. I guess it just didn't feel as natural this time? Overall still enjoyable with great music.
They do a nice job of tying in First Class with little flashback scenes here and there. It also gets a little violent, but not shockingly violent in parts like DoFP was.
Definitely not as emotionally charged as DoFP. Hard to top the great performances that Stewart, McKellen, and Jackman brought to the table. Even McAvoy and Fassbender weren't as great in this film.
Fucking Weapon X slaughtering Stryker's soldiers was great. Also, Mr Sinister tie-in that was arleady mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing him on screen. As long as they do him more justice than they did Apocalypse...
