So we did a couple of VD fights tonight without any problems until the EV fucked my shit up. Anyone know what type of damage Arrogance Incarnate is off EV? Was tanking it just fine on PLD for 80% of the fight until it dropped to 19% and pretty much 1-shotted me for 2k after a crit.

Was able to hold it and unweak but then again it did one for 2.2k. Seemed like the damage increased when it's HP went down? Only other thing I can think of is that my Minne's wore so my Defense was maybe 400 lower than normal. Is it worth using Aegis on this fight or is it purely Ochain?

DMG does go up as hp drops, just make sure to stay topped off and keep capped mdt/phalanx/scherzo on. I never had it do more than 1.9k with scherzo and no aegis though.

It's breath dmg. So it'll fuck you up no matter what shield you wear. Did you perhaps have scherzo as well, and did that wear? Cause that's usually what makes you survive Arrogance.

I dunno about that. I've eaten a 3k right after benediction. It always seemed to hit hardest at high HP to me.

I just did a fight about an hour ago, it was doing 1.6k consistently and then raised up to 1.9~k around 20%? I'm not sure on exact numbers, but i saw an absolute increase as the hp dropped. I'll check logger in a moment.

There are some BDT-% gear out there if you can't maximize it from DT gear alone. Doubt if it's worthwhile. It's likely HP based with some kind of fTP modifier, so more TP=higher % of HP used in calculation(like Spirits Within). Either way only way to weaken it is Scherzo/Earthen Armor/Damage Taken/Breath Damage Taken and possibly Fealty(works on nonelemental dmg like Mijin, maybe works on Arrogance)

Wouldnt that make it do more damage at low HP since mobs are programmed to fire TP at 100% at low hp?

First one was for 1540, and got progressively higher up to 1966 at the end. These are all with scherzo and -35% breath damage, though I'm sure some were caught in casting gear. Fealty doesn't help at all on arrogance.

It's... weird. The 2 1300~ towards the end with cureskin breaking just before could point to higher dmg at lower%. But the following 900, the 600 confuse me. 600 vs 1300~ is a bit much for cureskin to account for. Maybe both 1300 hit me in casting gear? But if that were the case, then they aren't much different than the 1200 I took near the start...

Combat situations suck horribly for testing things.

I'm curious if its a light based breath damage (since everything else he does is light based) or non-element based breath damage. If its the former, /RUN tenebrae/Vallation could be useful.

I normally take around 1300 in full DT gear which is around 30~% (with just scherzo), there were also times that it did 0 to me when we were doing DM when I had both scherzo and EA.

Someone told me damage is split like needles/disccoid. Not sure if true. Either way, there has to be a gimmick to not getting OHKO'd by this at higher difficulty without 2k+ HP. I know these fights are supposed to be 'hard' but seems a little unfair to give them such high damage potential without some way to mititgate it. At lower HP's she spams it sometimes within the span of a few seconds and if multiple DDs get hit, the WHM usually can't cure everyone fast enough without either pulling too much hate or a DD dying. Earthen Armor+Scherzo is the only surefire way that comes to my mind. Is Arrogance an instant WS like CDC/Circle Blade or is it a slight charge time? With a slight charge, could have a sec to swap to full DT%, otherwise slow 'n steady, DT% hybrid gear is a must for VD, or be a ranger.

Maybe I'm, just reading too much into it but EV is the only AA who was given a unique TP move change/name change. I wonder if there's a way to lessen the damage. Matsui has been adding gimmicky things to the game lately, so who knows? (ex: Naakuals being weakened drastically and most powerful TP moves removed when their aura's taken away). Either that or they added AA's VD mode with hopes that only a few ppl could beat it(with luck being a factor) and it'll become easier over time with new gear being added. They adopted this policy of adding NMs whom were nigh-unbeatable when they introduced Delve. Back then there was a large gap in ilvl gear and only LS with loads of R/M/Es and skill could beat NM1-6. Then over time as people got clears and subsequent ilvl119 weapons/armor, wins became exponentially easier. Might be that AA VD is the same, very hard to beat without skill as of now but as more gear is introduced and as you win and get more 119 AF gear, wins become slightly easier.


BTW Martel, from analyzing your log, it looks like Arrogance is on a 20-30s average except towards the verrrry end where she does it only a few seconds later. I guess if your mages know on average to cure big every 20-30seconds it makes it a bit more predictable?

It doesn't, the damage stays constant throughout the fight.

The trick to EV is to wear DT gear, as I said before, with a reasonable amount of DT gear it doesn't do anywhere near 2k damage.

I know for a fact I had atleast 24% dt in gear from dring/af+1 body/twilight torque. Besides maybe mollusca mantle (and laeradr helm maybe?) I don't see where to get more DT gear....was kinda serious about hrotti too as I've been using atonement and my tp gain is mainly from blockong anyways

@ 32% DT. Then we come to the dark ring.

According to an old test by Yugl the MDT augments on dark rings work on breath dmg. And so do the breath dmg taken augs. So with a 6/6 MDT/BDT you potentially have a -12% ring. Although, the tests indicate that you get slightly less than the MDT's value reduced on breath dmg. Like -4.8% instead of -5%.

So the dark ring I was using for this has 5% MDT, 3% BDT so ~8%.

So my set's at ~40% reduction.

I'd use laeradr if i had it. But I'm not sure I can make myself use hrotti over burtgang. <,<;;

EDIT:Mantles are an option, but I find repulse mantle eliminating the knock back from shield strike to be invaluable. Knock back is annoying. And can potentially get you killed if the mob paths weird and swerves to your side before you can get back in postion. I've had some weird BS where I got caught by an unblocked ws while the mob was moving. Was still in front of me, but the mob was facing perpendicular to my line of sight. Made me wonder if the direction a mobs attack come from is determined by a mobs facing direction rather than the location of the mob relative to the target... Kinda like blu spell animations.

I think its based on player perspective since you can bsckpedal in first person and sti block, even though to other players it appears as if you're walking away with back to target. It's weird. Also does repulse work all the time or occasionally? Someone told me it just reduces the potency of the knock back too. Wonder since im not a pld

There's no way you had scherzo then lol, that's the only time I've ever seen it be that high.
