approaches it mostly through scientifical/technical means and adds some mumbo-jumbo on top to complete the story. So if you had troubles with his writing/directing in previous ones, you probably won't like it.

It could've been 20-25min shorter, like scratch most of the Mann part. The ending was too hollywood and Tyche's version instead would've been a better fit. Like The Prestige's ending was finit, the ultimate "deal with the consequences of your actions". Also, I somehow couldn't connect to the adult Murphy. Can't tell if it was the actress or the story parts given, but I felt like the child Murphy was way better.

I was kind of annoyed by the robots because they were completely out of place, hurrdurr how come we dont have MRI's!, and were there for the sole purpose of being convenient plot devices. Yes there were only maybe two in the whole movie but point remains, they're for some reason easier to maintain then even the most basic medical technological functions.

MRI (magnetic resonant imaging) machines work by generating a very large magnetic field using a super conducting magnet and many coils of wires through which a current is passed. Maintaining a large magnetic field needs a lot of energy, and this is accomplished using superconductivity, which involves trying to reduce the resistance in the wires to almost zero. This is done by bathing the wires in a continuous supply of liquid helium at -269.1C. A typical MRI scanner uses 1,700 litres of liquid helium, which needs to be topped up periodically.

The problem is that helium is running out, as explained by chemist Peter Wothers in the Royal Institution's 2012 Christmas Lectures. Despite being the second most abundant material in the universe, helium is scarce on Earth as its lightness means it is not gravitationally bound to the atmosphere and is therefore constantly being lost to space. The majority of the world's helium supply is created through natural radioactive decay and cannot be artificially synthesised, meaning the gas is a non-renewable resource.

Seems like Nolan wants us to just know that and assume we ran out of helium and never figured out alternative methods

One thing that didn't make sense is, why go to Millers Planet first? since time is a limited resource why go to the planet where you lose so much of it first? I know it had the active beacon on it but they could have still gone to the other two first and barely any time would have passed on Miller's planet anyways.

Good point. As soon as they found out how great the time dilation factor is on Miller's planet, they should have realized that Miller would have landed only hours ago and didn't have sufficient time to judge whether the planet is habitable. But then again, that scene when cooper is watching the videos of the last 20~ years and starts tearing up at watching his family age before him hit me super hard. Powerful scene.

I think had they moved Damon to Millers island, add some rough terrain on water world for Damons freak out(or remove him entirely), do the water world last, and then time could have been a hurtful factor while having the heartfelt moments while not feeling out of place.

I mean the push to go there was stupid anyways. For a Scientist who basically only wanted to see her boyfriend, the motivation to go to a Planet that could have probably aged her boyfriend, or killed him before she got to his was just dumb.

I was rolling my eyes so hard during the scene where she was using love as a reason to go see her boyfriend's planet first. Reminded me how much I hated the talk of religion during Prometheus.

I think what bugs me the most is that somehow being in orbit around Miller's planet meant no time dilation, yet being ON the planet did. And even if it wasn't in orbit and was just a little bit away, there would not have been THAT MUCH dilation. For the plot? I get it. But for science that shit don't fly. Also, why not include a timestamp on all messages? That way you could tell if a message was old or new. Scientists in the future are stupid I guess.

They shouldn't have, but it was the closest and they didn't want to waste fuel going to further planets if this planet right hur was perfect, according to the beacon on the planet. What whatsherface forgot to factor was time dilation on the beacon, and she mentions this after TARS brings her back to the ship and the other dude dying; she was so excited about the landing that she didn't factor the data being sent back being dilated as well. She also mentions that the data was repeated/spread out so that even though the original person landed "2 min ago", it had already been years worth of data. Her fuck up, and Cooper makes her pay for it later. Iirc, he mentions wanting to skip the planet but is overruled, so he makes the plan to circle the long way and avoid as much time dilation as possible; there was still dilation in orbit, but not as much as on land.

If you didn't realize, this was as much a love story as it was a science fiction epic. I think Nolan made it too obvious with her monologue, but w/e since apparently it still went over people heads Lmao.

It had some time dilation being in orbit around the BLACK HOLE - they weren't in orbit around miller's planet, just really close to it on the opposite side of the black hole afaik

And anyway, thinking science here is just going to make the movie suck. If you wanted 7 years = 1 hour the gravity there would require 99% speed of light to escape the planet and they did it in the little space craft w/o a rocket when they needed a rocket to get the space craft off of earth

Finally saw it in IMAX this weekend. Amazing visuals and the movie never felt like it was too long. I was engrossed in it the whole way. And I did groan a little bit at the "magic" stuff at the end, but like Cooper said, humans today couldn't build something like that but who knows far in the future.
