The 40million gil required to purchase a small plot of land will, at best, be reduced to 20 million.
Yoshida said this morning that all prices will be reduced to World Group 3 levels by March, and that prices "may" (read: will) be devalued even further.

The purpose of housing is pretty transparent: gouge the 1% (particularly on Legacy worlds) to remove a lot of the excess gil and bring the cross-server economies into balance, so they can eventually phase out Legacy restrictions and treat all the servers the same.

The increased gil fountains in 2.1 (DR, etc.) are there to smooth the ride down and "spread the wealth around" while millions are extracted from the economy. We will see a 2008-level housing price collapse in 6 months or less.

    Thanks, Obama!

They said it was going to be expensive. I for one didn't Expect many people to be able to afford it right away. And I'm not saying everyone can make 500k a day, I'm saying its possible to do and if you have a smart and dedicated group that doesn't want to wait for prices to drop down.
I'm not saying its perfect, I'm just saying that its annoying that people don't have patience and want to work to solve a problem. "Housing is more expensive then we thought, let's put together a new plan to make this gil and reach this goal."
And if i remember there is a limited number of plots at the moment, so you need to work hard to be one of the companies with one.

Did a run of each the new 4man dungeons, memory isn't concrete but should be enough to get the gist of it. We ran with SCH (me) WHM PLD BRD because I didn't feel like changing to a DPS job. Unfortunately I already forgot like half of Pharos Sirius so until I do it again, blogmode on the other 2:

    Copperbell:
1st boss: First, note the arena is the long bridge.
Boss will link with the 3 closest small slimes. You'll have about 10 seconds to do whatever damage to him and kill the adds before he spawns a floor aoe on the first ~10% of the bridge (does ~400/tick). After this, periodically a bomb will spawn from the end of the path and make its way to the party. Its self-destruct has a huge range and I don't believe it can be stunned, so you kind of have to treat it like Final Sting from Qarn bees. You can also just run to the other side of the arena but this doesn't always work since bomb doesn't always ready Self-destruct the moment he walks up. If necessary you can just stand in the fire for a few ticks.

2nd boss: Very similar to the slime boss from the normal mode. Activate the blasting device and it'll spawn an interactable bomb somewhere on the field. Interact with it and you'll enter a "carrying" mode where you can't do anything except run around with the bomb in your hands. You can rightclick the carrying "buff" to drop the bomb. I typically did this when the popup said 5 seconds left. After the first bomb you might have to dodge some AoE before you can detonate by boss. The explosion damages friends and foes but it's not that damaging to players I think. Hate doesn't really matter on this fight. Once you bomb the boss enough it'll be a smaller mob, just zerg it down.

3rd: Tank the giant wherever. After ~20 seconds a sandworm will begin making ripples around the arena (like Cutters Cry 2nd boss); just dodge if you can. Ranged DPS and heals might wanna just stay out of the sand part of the arena altogether. Periodically the worm will "search for fodder"; at this point you need to pickup and drop one of the crystals in the room (same as dropping bombs on previous boss). This attracts the worm, he'll come over and pop out, and be satisfied for about 30 seconds. Repeat feeding as needed. Don't overfeed, as you might run out of crystals. If you do, he'll do Bottomless Desert which sucks everyone in and pretty much oneshots the party. Otherwise a very simple boss.

    Haukke:
1st boss: Imp. Periodically spawns adds. I dunno if standing in the add-spawning purple floor aoe hurts you or anything but was a pretty straightforward fight.

2nd boss: Dodge floor aoe, not a lot else to it. Periodically spawns adds, and some flying swords (can't target) that fly around the room and hurt.

Last boss: Kill adds, avoid AoE that can be avoided. Does a full-room AoE called Blood Rain every so often for about 2k (estimate 30 seconds from bad memory). If an add is still alive before she does this she can absorb them to do a bit more damage.

Should be noted that Haukke and Copperbell have a lot of enforced roadblocks to stonewall speedrun attempts. Total philo/myth payout for all 3 of these dungeons is 100/50.

Does 2k damage straight when I was hit by it.

Agreed with Seravi when he says Haukke and Copperbell probably isn't the best place for speedruns. Pharos Sirius on the other hand could be very interesting.

    Regarding Housing Price

This is FFXIV: ARR Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida. First of all, allow me to express my thanks to all of you who have offered feedback on the matter of housing prices. Needless to say, I have been following the discussion very closely.

In this post, I would like to clarify our fundamental stance toward housing prices, and offer a better picture of how players can expect prices to fall in the near future.
(My apologies in advance if this post gets a bit wordy.)

    Fundamental Pricing Stance
Our fundamental stance toward housing prices was that we wanted to ensure that plots would be evenly distributed, avoiding a situation in which the wealthiest players could easily buy up all available plots of land. Please understand that while we will be adding servers and expanding housing areas as soon as we can, it is simply physically impossible for us to accomplish this easily, in a matter of one or two weeks.

If the initial price of land was easily within the means of wealthy players, one can envision all available plots of land being snatched up immediately, leaving other players—even those possessing the necessary gil—unable to purchase land for an extended period of time. Seeking to avoid this, we made the difficult decision to go forward with the pricing scheme we presented, aware that many players would be unable to afford housing for a while.
    Eorzean Economy Review
Before determining the initial (or maximum) prices for land, we conducted an extensive survey of the Eorzean economy across multiple Worlds, including:

    • The total amount of gil possessed by all players
    • The total amount of gil possessed by all active players on each World
    • The number of active free companies and members on each World
    • The total amount of gil owned by all active players belonging to each free company on all Worlds
    • The amount of gil entering the economy and circulating in the market on a given day in each World
    • Distribution of the above (X% belonging to the most wealthy, Y% belonging to the middle class, Z% to the less wealthy, etc.)

Needless to say, RMT traders are served with immediate bans and their gil removed from circulation, so these figures are not included in the above. In addition, to account for gil generated by RMT abuses that might still be in circulation, an additional 10% or so was subtracted from the figures we arrived at.

What we realized from this survey was that the wealthiest players in each world had at their disposal an amount of gil that was considerably higher than one would imagine. In each legacy World, there are more than ten players in possession of over one hundred million gil. Even in non-legacy Worlds, there are a significant number of players with several million gil.
    he Future Price of Housing
In conducting this survey, we created a forecast for gil distribution in the three-month period following the release of patch 2.1. In doing so, we anticipated that:

    • Players will be seeking to earn more gil than they have thus far, and
    • The overall amount of gil generated each day will be higher (in fact, considerably higher) with the release of patch 2.1

    ...and adjusted our forecast accordingly.

The results of this forecast, with the necessary adjustments for differences between the various Worlds, formed the basis for the depreciated "XX Days Later" prices presented in the patch notes.

With this pricing scheme, we sought a balance in which roughly 80% of all existing free companies will be able to purchase at least a small-sized plot in three months’ time.

I understand that, in taking these measures to ensure even distribution of land, we are asking for considerable patience from those players who are eager to enjoy housing right away. While I sympathize with players concerns, we believe that this is in the best long-term interests of the game.
The Regulation of Starting and Final Prices
As mentioned within the patch notes, we will closely monitor land purchases, and consider revising prices as necessary according to World population and economy. Please keep in mind that prices will decrease every six hours from the opening of the servers, and will continue to drop even during maintenance. Furthermore, plots of land released in the future will never be more expensive.
    Legacy World Price Adjustments
Due to the prodigious amount of gil in circulation in legacy Worlds, we regret that current housing prices may be prohibitive to the following players:

    • Those new to the game who started on legacy Worlds
    • Those returning to a legacy World after taking an extended break
    • Those on a legacy World who have been unable to save gil

Upon considering the feedback we have received since the release of the patch notes, we have decided to make the following adjustments:

    • Land prices will start at the figures indicated in the patch notes
    • From January 2014, devaluation will be adjusted every two weeks
    • After three months, final land prices will match those of World Group 3

    * World Group 3 (third listed in the patch notes)
    Bahamut / Behemoth / Cactuar / Carbuncle / Chocobo / Diabolos / Fenrir / Garuda / Gilgamesh / Ifrit / Leviathan / Mandragora / Midgardsormr / Odin / Ramuh / Shiva / Siren / Tiamat / Titan / Tonberry / Ultros
Although this takes place over the course of three months, land prices in legacy Worlds will eventually fall to match those of World Group 3. In the event that pricing changes are made to this group, the same will be applied to legacy Worlds.

By adjusting devaluation at set intervals rather than in one go, we hope to prevent a sudden rash of purchases.

The introduction of housing will help to unify the perceived value of gil in each individual World. Furthermore, it has presented an opportunity for us to consider the lifting of restrictions on transfers between between legacy and non-legacy Worlds.
    Personal Housing
While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.
    In Summary

    • The final price of land on all Worlds is subject to adjustments, and may fall lower
    • Over the course of three months, prices on legacy Worlds will fall to match those of World Group 3
    • Personal housing will be far more affordable than free company housing

We realize that these measures will not immediately satisfy all players, especially those on legacy Worlds who are either new to the game or returning from extended absences. We ask for your patience and understanding as we strive to create a balanced housing system.

They really should've just pushed Housing to a later patch and launched with personal housing first if that's the stance they're taking.

Like it or not, most people require at least some kind of instant gratification in order to play because if they don't get it here they can get it elsewhere. While I agree there should definitely be something to work towards, a huge grind for gil to gain access to something that's presented as a leisurely activity seems off balance.

With only 150 total plots available on each world, it's definitely understandable why the housing prices are high. If SE is of the mindset that they want to push this content out the door ASAP then releasing it now makes sense. However, if you're of the mindset that you don't want to release content until it's able to be consumed by a majority of players, then this makes no sense at all.

The thing about Housing is that it was so hyped up, and there absolutely is a ton of content (furnishings) that have been added to the game in order to support it. It's easy to see what Yoshida meant when saying the amount of development that went into it was tantamount to an expansion in and of itself. It was presented as something that could be accessed, even if it was only a small plot, by the casual player. This is not what was released.

Giving players access to personal housing first would've allowed players to start consuming most of this content and start to explore what they could do with their own small space. With that set in players minds, releasing FC Housing (even with the prices as high as they are) would've been less of a punch in the gut and felt more like something to work towards rather than a glass ceiling you'd never be able to break through. Rather than encouraging your imagination to wander in regards to what you could do with an expanded space with your FC, we're left confused as to why we would want this content that's so prohibitively expensive.

As a casual player, I'd rather wait 3 months for something to be released that's realistically obtainable as opposed to being shown something now that's impossible to obtain and I need to wait 3 months to see what will happen. A distinction that may not matter to hardcore players, but every game needs a casual player base. They're akin to the middle class in the real world.

Kinda sad how WoW blows this housing right out of the gate with having the plots and services expand as you level up and do quests and provide resources.

Another step ahead, but I still understand Yoshi's intentions to drain the econs of gil.

I get the need to drain the gil out of the economy but they saw this years ago. They should have just capped people at 1 mil gil from 1.0 to 2.0 and let everyone know before servers went down. Sure people would have been pissed or just stocked up on items but it still would have made a more drastic effect on the game than what we have now.

On topic: Treasure maps are ok. Gives 5 myth tomes a win and it's an easy 3 man.

Yep. Sort of wondering if it's just because I was trying to overwrite SCH virus with WHM Virus but not like that didn't happen before patch, so probably intentional.

I think that's one of the main reasons why people don't like the system. It's something incredibly rivial that only servers as vanity, but you need to pay out the ass and then some for smallest, lowest grade land.

Christ, what the hell was the point? The myth tomes are irrelevant; you could do a WP in 10-15 mins and earn 6x the amount without fishminelogging a chart and finding the treasure. They should have done a guaranteed T3 materia with a chance at T4 for the LV 50 party map; it's on an 18 hour timer so it's not a big deal. I can SB ~9 T3 materia in less than an hour.

How much gil / shards drop?

CT with 23 randoms is so fucking annoying. People shouting and insulting each other even though it's everyone's first time. People dropping or going AFK after a boss. People locking others out from boss encounters. We reached the boss before last and after wiping, the alliance crumbled. So frustrating.
