...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT KNOX AND NORTHWESTERN BLOUNT
COUNTIES THROUGH 545 PM EDT...

At 459 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Alcoa, moving northeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Eagleton Village, Louisville, Alcoa, Kimberlin Heights, Maryville,
Wildwood, Knoxville, Rockford, Maloneyville, and Lake Forest.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
east Tennessee.

It was kinda a scary night last night. Heavy rain, wind and lightning. My phone app kept going off switching between severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch. Lots of power lines and trees down in this region. There was a bad tornado in eastern Kentucky with fatalities.

Massive flooding has been killing people recently in my area of Texas. Both recent tragedies, there was almost no warning or alarms. People got swept away bt 20 foot walls of water. Entire houses and cabins full of families and kids at summer camps are missing.

All NWS flash flood warnings, including the one issued after midnight on Friday, trigger Wireless Emergency Alerts, the emergency push notification sent through cellphone towers to all wireless phones in the emergency area, Fogarty said. That warning was updated nine times throughout Friday, each of which triggered separate alerts through the Emergency Alert System and the Wireless Emergency Alerts, Fogarty said.

The most serious warning came at 4:03 a.m. when the NWS issued a flash flood emergency, warning of an “extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation” and urging immediate evacuations to higher ground. Flash flood emergencies are issued using a mixture of rainfall data and on-the-ground reports: “Someone has told us we need to get people out of here immediately or people are going to die,” Fogarty said.
